Thought I'd bring this subject up as no one to my knowledge seems to have mentioned it yet.
I just wondered what everyones opinions were, particularly with a few of the tracks now available for download. Don't get me wrong, Meat does it better than anybody else, but these performances are pretty hot. Rob Evan has an outstanding voice, Elaine Caswell is a goddess, Margoshes is king on piano, all that's missing is a better band as it does seem to lack a certain amount of production. http://www.overthetopinfo.com/pages/11/index.htm |

Well, I like Meat Loaf more.
Cause I think original is much better than a cover. Greets, Henderikus |

I really enjoyed the simplistic take on the production which I'm presuming won't stick anyway. I love piano solos and Pray Lewd was the best of the bunch for me.
With regards to the production, Rinckoff mentioned those were raw cuts, to we can't really comment too much on that. They were all good versions and many nice little bits in each. When truth be told though, Meat Loaf's versions are the best for me - though I'm 50/50 with Read Em And Weep and will have to wait for a full version to decide. For a little bit more info for those who don't have it. They are a cover band which seems to have the blessing of Jim Steinman (and he was at one of their concerts if puddings are needing for proof). |

I think it's sounds a little bit like the albums. They just sing the albumsongs. They are not performing, not doing the songs there own way, I miss the character. I think Meat is the best to do those songs.

OK, I've just managed to get to the site somehow to get the clips. First one I got was Making Love Out Of Nothing At All, and I honest to God thought that he had a sore throat! He sounded in pain! Then, as the night went on, the sore throat disappeared but I don't know
Fave song of all time is Anything For Love, not Making Love, btw! In case it sounded like the latter was fave song |

I've just listened to the clips. In my opinion they don't even get half way in comparison to how Meat sings them. The guys got a great voice but i soon got bored and listened to ML instead.

Not the best. Not a patch on Jim Steinman - his voice has very little musical flexibility. Anything for love is shocking. The band aint bad but he really can't sing.

No, I think Steve Steinman is fantastic, and can sing. One of the songs on there - Making Love Out Of Nothing At All - is not a meat song, so by your theory I should be open minded about it. I am not a massive air supply fan, who i think did the original, but i think this version is awful!!! He simply can't sing, simple as that

er, the thread is about a tribute?? The reply suggested i didn't like him cos he was singing meat songs - i was pointing out that some tributes i really do like - and s steinman is a very very good tribute. But this one, in my opinion, is poor and cannot sing

I think its complete crap to be honest
What a bit steaming pile of poo. It's disgusting hearing some guy with a really poor voice singing meats songs. Yes, Steinman wrote them, but the majority, Meat made his own. Listening to this joke pretty much kill meats songs is disgusting, I'm just glad I didn't get to hear this retard singing 'For Crying Out Loud'! Last edited by Kev; 12 Jul 2005 at 13:06. Rob Evan is NOT a tribute to Meat. The Over The Top shows, featuring Rob Evan, Elaine Caswell, Steve Margoshes etc are a tribute to the music of Jim Steinman. There's a subtle difference.

Childish language? Yes... I'd much rather have put 'bad' language, but respect the rules of the forum.
I work in the music industry, and could pick out every little nasty part of it that is so wrong, but, I'm seeing Meat tonight so all is good. It's simply rubbish, I know it's not a Meat tribute... but that doesn't make it any less poo! :) |

Silly me for thinking that calling someone a retard--while knowing as a "proffesional" within the "music industry" that there is no accounting for taste and that personal preferences are just that--is "bad" enough.

Look - we can all tell someone who can't sing. Maybe retard was a harsh word but you do get a strange impression of the bloke from the songs - I agree with the person who said he sounds like he is in pain!!!
At the end of the day it doesn't matter whether he is singing meat loaf, celine dion, or his own stuff - he can't sing and it sounds crap. I can't sing either, so I don't record songs. |

What can I say?
I have a cover of a concert in February. I don't like the voice of Rob. But I must say he is better now than Meat. Sorry Meat, but I think you can't sing in concert now. Don't throw me with a stone, but I think he is bad. I listened the symphoncic orchestra CD, I saw the DVD and I have to say that's a bullshit. Did you hear For Crying Out Loud by Rob? At the end that high 'C' in 30 seconds? And Meat in this same song? Grhhhhhh... I hope he will be better in studio on Bat3. He should sing more No Matter What what is deeply transponated song. Meat will never be as young as he all right now! |

Hi friends
Have you ever thought that these could be the reasons for the bad quality of his voice? <<Please note: All mixes were straight to CD off the live sound board, no remixing or mastering. >> <<Sound balances on recording are slightly compromised for the sake of the live mix.>> You can find it on the OTT page. Honestly, when I listened to the first stream files (64 bit or lower) of the MSO CD, Meats voice was also in a way "terrible" because the compression. Don't judge a book by its compression |
