Quite so. Any argument from those on the dole that there's no work was completely demolished when hordes of Poles marched in and took up the jobs that were available. I'm all for taking away dole payments from those who can work but choose not to bother.

I haven't really read the article, however this did crop up recently on another forum.

I'm living in London at the moment, which is a bit of a dream for me really, and still is to a point. However, no matter how the statistics show up the north and it's people, it remains to be my favourite part of the country, warts and all! Give me Manchester, Liverpool, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire anyday! I don't quite know what it is, but the south is almost like a foreign country to Northerners, certainly in London at least. Everyone seems to have a different language and a different sense of humour in london...they just don't get the northern thing.

I love everything about the north, it's history, it's music, it's culture, the scenery, the cities and the coasts. You'll never get me living down south long term, no matter how lovely it is.

And without being biased, Grimsby is the only place in the UK to do decent fish and chips! Everywhere else is terrible :P!

When I was in the UK earlier this year with Mini-Pud we went to Grimsby to see the Mr.Men stage show (bad memories) and the Fish & Chips we got from Grimsby were shit. Saying that though, the chippie owner didn't look like your traditional chippie owner, if you catch my drift

I have two lazy-assed brothers, a completely lazy-assed sister and an even more lazy-assed nephew, they should be made to work for their dole the lazy c***s.

At the very least I believe they should send these lazy sods into the military to get a bit of discipline, excerise and self-respect and to give back what they're willingly taking.

I grew up up North (in fact in Cumbria, as North as you can get without being Scottish, perish the thought...) and now live in Yorkshire. I have had regular opportunities to travel to London through personal life and work, and would never live down there. It's a decent night out, and yes London never sleeps whereas York seems to shut at 6pm, but it's as if you were in another country! And without a doubt, northerners are more friendly. And also more honest - they'll let you know if you pi$$ them off, but they'll also watch your back! And best fish & chips??? Bridlington, without a shadow of a doubt!

Ooo which chippie did you go to? Not all of them are great, the fish is the best but it depends how they cook it. Some places just ruin them by overcooking them or not using fresh fish.

As if you were in Grimsby! Did you do anything else while there?

Ahhh someones after my own heart! Northerners are more friendly, but i think it's to other northerners. Before I broke up from uni, I was talking to a girl on my course who's from Kent and she was explaining reasons why she was gonna leave and go back to Kent and she made the point that to her northerners are only friendly to other northerners. For me it's not true, i'm friendly to everyone (when it suits me :P) but i dont think theres sometimes a bit of a social block between strangers if they're from the north and south. I find it easier to start a convo with a stranger whose northern than a stranger who's southern. Don't know why but it's true.

If you share crisps with a child you're looked at as a freak or a paedophile and if you share crisps with an adult you're looked at as a freak or a terrorist suspect. Best thing to do in london is keep to yourself. It's a nice place if you want to not be noticed.

It was somewhere not far from the Grimsby Auditorium, no idea what the name of it was.

I only had Mr.Men on my schedule for Grimsby and to be honest I didn't want to stop there longer than necessary.

Yeah don't blame you really. I think I only really see it's beauty (i say the word loosely) cause it's home. I never understand why people visit as tourists. It really has no attraction.

Absolutely right Heli - when I picked my University 9 years ago, I said to my parents: "I aint going further south than Birmingham"!!! Having said that, there's some right holes up here, but maybe it's different cos we know they are?!

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of Northerners know that there's a lot of shitholes up North, whereas a lot of Southerners deny that any exist in the South.

I imagine some people would've been a little tetchy at the sound of a Belfast accent on the tube.
