Me too, it is so unexpected and suddenly. I hope they will let us know what happened.
The first thing I thought was maybe Covid.

I've read that the family have said they won't say how he passed.

At the end of the day, I think it's right for them to be able to grieve the way they want to.

What has been really nice to see is the outpouring of tributes to him across social media.

He deserves all of that for everything he's done in music and acting.

Meat often said he would die on stage. I'm glad that didn't happen and he was surrounded by his family during his last day instead.

It seems quite poignant now that he sounded great last year during the Mike Huckabee live songs and still gave us some of that old school Meat magic.

The absolute king of live rock music for me. Meat could transport you away to another world, to another life and do all that whilst touching your soul within 3 hours. He got the most out of his great bands and also Patti who were at the top of their game when they performed with Meat.

Very lucky to have been able to see him live so often in the UK especially between 2003-2013. Most fans around the world were never that lucky during that time period.

It’s that day we have all dreaded, we knew it would come eventually, but not now. So sudden. Despite the multiple set-backs he has had in recent years, the countless back operations and struggles with ill health, it felt like Meat was finding his feet again – physically different of course – but a glimmer of his voice was still there, his stage presence remained, his humour, his ability to hold you in the palm of his hand with his stories either sung or said – Meat had hope , revealing he was recording music once again, his ambition to do more shows- his hope gave us hope, that’s the thing that hurts.

But we shouldn’t be sad for the things we could have had, but grateful for the things we did. The music, the performance – totally unique, out of this world. Larger than life. Intimidating yet gentle, unpredictable but warm, a wonderful heart – a tremendous performer.
What we’ve got it a legacy that will live forever, memories that we can cherish, songs that became the soundtracks of our lives. There are no words that can describe my gratitude. Not even a song penned by Steinman and bellowed by Meat could conjure my love and appreciation for the man himself.

Rest well friend
And I promise to never stop rocking

I am completely shocked, numb, and totally heartbroken.
There was so much to look forward to with the new album...
Heaven just couldn't wait a while longer, could it?
RIP, Meat. Love you forever.

I am in tears here, so sorry to hear this and had to wake Jules to tell her. So sorry to hear this, but he is at peace no longer troubled by the physical problems that ailed him in the last years.
Our condolences to Deborah, Pearl and Amanda. He was just a special guy we got to know.
We will always treasure him, as we know you will. That guy we all loved is now at peace, bless him for the joy he gave us. :)

ALL IS WELL.

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped into the next room. I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other, that is we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well.

Henry Scott Holland.

TMZ is prominently claiming Meat passed away after a brief but obviously very serious battle with Covid this past week. This additional news is spreading fast.

Note that that is UNCONFIRMED at this stage.

Yes, I've seen the TMZ report too. No matter what the cause, though, it is still so sad and unbelievable...and way too soon

Well, I posted before, Covid is my first thought. Why? Because Meat was in the risk-group. Over 70’s, asthma, overweight and had WPW.

Some say it doesn’t matter what the cause was. For me personally and maybe for others too, it does. Because knowing it helps some people to deal with it and accepting it. Whatever the cause is, I hope we will found out.

It’s devastating the man isn’t with us anymore. I hope he will rock with Jimmy in heaven. I wish his family, friends and all of you here strength to deal with the loss of our Fireball.

There have been some very nice tributes paid across the various forms of social media.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-60080934

https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/202...-to-meat-loaf/

I don't know if there will be international restrictions on the video (usually not when it comes to RTE) but there's a video from an Irish TV show called The Late Late Show in this link. Gay Byrne was the host.

I'm going to guess it's from about 1984

I still can’t believe this. I get woken up by my iPhone, sky news alert, about Meat’s passing. It took a few mins to comprehend, now on every news channel, social media, web pages, the amount of tributes is amazing. Watching or reading about his life and people tell their stories about how they became fans or what Meat was like when they met him, all of it brining tears to my eyes. 35 years I have been a fan of Meat’s, could be longer tbh, that day when my uncle played Bat and I was hooked. Obviously you know this day will come but never did I think it would be today. To see his recent post about new recordings and his new TV show, I was looking forward to more from Meat. Absolutely lost for words today. Hopefully Meat and Jim are cooking up something special up there in heaven. Devastated beyond words today. Thank you Meat for everything you gave us, we all loved you for bringing yours and Jim’s music to the world. R.I.P Legend
