Yes .. and the Glasgow Evening Times was the paper that reported so confidently last week that Meat would be appearing at the Glasgow show and quoted their source as Mercury .. which they (Mercury) said was completely untrue ..

As ue has said, Meat has undergone surgery for WPWS which is minimally invasive and which should leave him fitter than ever before .. Hallelujah!! :)

I just saw over on the OIFC board that Meat Loaf is supposed to be on something called London Tonight at 6pm discussing his health and the tour, etc, and didnt notice this posted anywhere here, so i thought id pass the word on. Maybe Meat will clear up the confusion about Sunday's show as well hopefully while he's on the show! Let us know how it goes please, some of us unfortunately cant view the show!

Default Meat Health Update

From Ananova.com

Meatloaf admits 'cheating death'

Meat Loaf has spoken about his dramatic on-stage collapse and heart surgery, and admitted: "I cheated death."

The singer was diagnosed with a potentially fatal heart condition after collapsing in the middle of a concert at London's Wembley Arena.

He underwent an operation to correct the defect and has spent the last two weeks recovering.

At a press conference, the 52-year-old singer said he is lucky to be alive after doctors discovered he had Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a condition which causes an irregular heart beat.

"In a sense I guess I cheated death because of the condition I had," he said.

"The last two weeks have been fairly scary and unlike anything I've gone through before."

Meat Loaf also revealed he had been unwell throughout the summer, but was determined to perform in the UK despite suffering dizziness and fainting spells during earlier gigs in Europe and America.

Okay, sitting here at work and feel the need to clear something up. I rarely mix work with Meat Loaf, but I feel the need to clear something up. I looked in the medical billing book, and Meat did not have a "surgery." Meat Loaf had a "procedure." A cardiac cath is an outpatient procedure, which is defined as less serious than a surgery. I know it is all semantics, but I do feel it is important to understand exactly what is going on. The ablation process that was also performed is also considered a procedure and not a surgery. I find the need to clear this up due to the fact that I read a similar account of Meat having a heart murmur, which is far more serious than WPW syndrome, which set off a flurry of "Meat Loaf is on his death bed" type of posts on a Rocky Horror forum I frequent. I have personally consulted with a cardiologist and have it confirmed that Meat Loaf will more than likely be doing better a couple of weeks after his procedure than he was doing when he was in high school playing football - the cardiac cath with ablation is just that darn good!

ROCK ON MEDICAL ADVANCEMENTS!!!

It's interesting but it doesn't answer the two most burning questions for me:

1) Was the proceedure a total success? (Is Meat Loaf one of the 95%?)
2) When will the tour resume?

Since ive posted, I checked out what London Tonight is (sorry, didnt know at the time!) and apparently its a news program, so either maybe they'll have more of the same press conference to show OR Meat will in fact be in studio perhaps? Who knows, but hopefully it will give everyone more answers and good news :) !

Take care!

Thank you for the link, Mariella! VERY good to see him!!!! He MUST be feeling better if they had a press conference. I would imagine we'll be hearing and reading all sorts of things from it during the next day or so!

Thanks, Mike! All of you who are going, have a GREAT time!!

Sue, maybe the rest of your answers will come in the London Tonight program this evening!

Hope those of you who get to see it will tell those of us who can't, all about it!

Thanks.

Love,
MB

Was he carrying a US football or Rugby ball?? I can't tell!

Anyway, he looks well and seemed to be chatting away in his usual style, so that's good!

FYI, he was not in any way being overdramatic by saying that he "cheated death". WPW can cause arrythmias, which can kill in a matter of moments. Even scarier, arrythmias are more common when the person is ill, exhausted or dehydrated- all states that Meat has no doubt experienced, both onstage and off, in the last few months and years. My son is at risk for arrythmias (it is the #1 cause of death for the heart defect he has if not monitored properly) , so I have read a great deal about them, scary ~~~~~~s that they are.

Looks like a rugby ball to me- I'd love to see the whole press conference, does anyone know if it was broadcast? He does look good, thank goodness.

True, the cardiac cath and ablation (which is actually done via cath) is a procedure (as opposed to an operation) but it's by no means a walk in the park. The patient is put completely out, then a catheter tube is inserted into a large vein in their leg and run up into the heart. The ablation is delivered through this tube. The patient usually must remain perfectly still for at least two hours following a cath to prevent bleeding. The main danger in a heart cath is the cath baloon being inflated too big or nicking an artery or valve while in the heart. It's no little thing- my husband's grandmother died while having a cath. It's also true that Meat likely didn't have a murmur- the murmur is caused by altered blood flow or altered structures in the heart, rather than altered electrical impulses. If he did have one, it could be from the additional pathway that was ablated, but most likely he didn't have one. My son's murmer is so odd that his cardiologist calls in med students at every appointment just to hear it. Yes, Meat is probably healthier (in a cardiac sense) now than he was as a high school athlete, good point David.

Hi

My hubby has had a heart condition since his heart attack in 1993.
He had and iregular heart rate and now is treated with a pacemaker/defribulator its changed his life!
Rock on modern medicine!

He also has experienced a angiogram to and yes he had to keep still afterwards! I remember passing his cup of tea with a straw to him!

Glad to see Meat is on the mend!

Hugs

Thread split from Loaf Camera Action - short notice TV apperances.

This is more to do with Meat himself rather than his acting career .

Thanks Jen and Mariella,
so cool to see the interview.

Meat has also been all over Fox News here in the US, yesterday and today. Came on this morning while we were talking to my Dad, he was surprised. More accurate than some accounts.

We called Jules' folks in AZ, they read earlier this week that Meat was about a goner! This was shortly after Meat posted the truth here. Gotta respect his concern for the fans , and also wonder about some of the media's accurracy.
