I don't see a problem with topics Meatgril is posting, I see a problem with people freaking out when the topics get discussed which ironically Meatgril is one of them.
Maybe people are only saying RIP Michael Jackson here because Meat Loaf mentioned he was saddened by the news and they feel they have to do the same to look good. I don't know, but if people really wanted to show respect towards Michael Jackson then they'd hop over to one of the numerous websites that allow you to give condolences or donate money to one of his charities. I might have it wrong and maybe one of the mods is going to send all the RIP messages over to a Jacko website where no one will ever read them. Maybe I need more coffee and a whole lot more sleep. |

Do you honestly think that he will rest in peace, really, in all honesty, do you think that will ever happen? Princess Di has been dead for 12 years and she's not resting in peace and she was less controversial. The media, his family and every man and his (or her) dog that ever had anything in the slightest to do with him have gone nucking futs

The only interesting thing I've seen in the news about him over the last week kinda answered my question about if he was actually going to be ready for the shows: The rehearsal footage of his suppossedly upcoming shows looks pretty good imo. As if 13 years never passed. Apparently AEG are releasing this as a DVD/Blu Ray as the last few sessions were pro shot on Hi Def with proper staging and lighting.
What could have been eh? |

That's probably because she knows she's been left sod all in his will, at least with having custody of the kids she'll be on a nice little earner. I'm surprised that none of his siblings were named as a potential guardian.

that wouldn't surprise me but his mum is trying to get custody of the kids but michael jackson has left in his will the kids to diana ross it just shows you what he really thought of his family and his ex wife |

Yep, his 79 year old ma has the kids, then when she pops her clogs or is unable to look after them then they go to Diana Ross.

If like me, you are absolutely appauled by OK! Magazine's front cover then please sign the petition to get it off our shelves;
Petiton I just have, was absolutely livid when I first saw it ! |

Yeah I saw that cover when someone pointed it out at work. It does seem tasteless as it states it is a "tribute" issue. Doesn't affect me personally as I never buy those trashy magazines anyway. If it was a petition to get rid of all the celebrity magazines and tabloids then I would gladly sign it.

That's what totally appauled me too Andrew the fact that they have the absolute gaul to call it a tribute cover, look at the Now magazine tribute cover that I have (Lisa Marie features a bit in it that's why I got it) and it's a really good photo of Michael in concert and a nice way to remember him by, how would anyone at OK! like to walk into a shop and see their dying relative as the central figure on the front of a magazine, sure if the shoe was on the other foot they would all be up in arms so why then is Michael different ?!
I was livid when I saw it dread to think what the absolute die hard fans thought when they saw that !! Outrage features very highly I would imagine and quite rightly so, what is wrong with using a pic from the O2 Press Conference, such as this one; I would much rather look at a pic like this than when he's dying, and so it sits cover facing down on my desk instead ! |

What the hell has an ancient region of western Europe that included what is now northern Italy and France and Belgium and part of Germany and the Netherlands got to do with anything? If you're going to be appalled then at least use the correct spellings of words - it's gall
As for the petition it's a load of shit that will not achieve a single thing. Now if there was a petition to stop you posting a picture of Michael Jackson in every post then I'd more than gladly sign that. |

OK published their tribute to Jade Goody, that sad, ill-educated and exploited product of the ghastly Big Brother machine, in the week before her death, apparently quoting her "last words". Will this latest nonsense affect OK adversely or will sales, just as when Jade died, simply rocket through the roof? As the magazine is on the shelves and being purchased .. let's face it Emma, you must have seen the cover, yet you still purchased it .. I suspect the latter, because most people (including his fans) simply don't and won't vote with their feet, and I don't see that an on-line petition will achieve its being removed from the shelves. If anything these things give more publicity, and may even help sales imo, and the magazine will simply laugh all the way to the bank.
Personally if OK, Hello etc each started sending me a free copy every week they'd go straight from my mailbox to the bin with all the other unsolicited junk that gets delivered. Like Andrew, were it a petition to get rid of all the celebrity magazines and tabloids I too would be tempted to sign it, but would probably resist as it wouldn't achieve anything. Michael Jackson's lifestyle has caused controversy for the last quarter century, and sadly now he's died the media machine will ensure it continues because it sells and makes them money, simple as that, and that it happened in the run up to the O2 concerts only fuels the machine. The media handling and exploitation of his death must be thoroughly unpleasant for many of his family, but not unexpected I suspect as it was a pattern for so much of his life. I felt sorry for his children when he was alive, and feel sorry for them now .. not because of the cover of a trashy magazine, but because their future will no doubt be the subject of continuing controversy and media exploitation. Jackson will not be allowed to "Rest in Peace" as long as people buy and read what will continue to be written about him, but those unfortunate children should be allowed to live and grow up in it .. sadly I suspect they will have significant wealth but little else to give them a stable grounding. OK will try and answer without being contradictory though I think I've dug the hole too deep now to try and crawl out of it but yes I did buy it, I flicked through it and there were several pics of LMP, as some of you are aware I have been an Elvis fan since childhood so anything related or otherwise I buy it.
The whole principle of the cover still stands, I loath it and wish that they had used a totally different picture than the one that they have used. |

And that's the thing isn't it .. you really strongly disapprove of the cover, yet because there was something in the magazine you wanted, you bought it .. and probably others who have signed the on-line petition have also purchased it, and there will be hundreds of thousands of others who don't sign it who have bought or will buy the magazine .. so what's the point of a petition? .. because I doubt a thousand or so names would ruffle OK's feathers or impact on its sales .. they regularly sell half a million or so each month.
The only way they'd be likely to change their way of operating is if the vast majority of their target group all voted with their feet and refused to buy it. Poor sales would perhaps make them think again .. sales will just encourage them to continue .. and as long as it sells, nothing short of some illegality is likely to have it taken off the shelves by OK, nor by the retailers who also make money from the sales. I agree the cover is pretty tasteless .. but then I think most of what these celebrity magazines publish is intrusive, questionably accurate and tasteless anyway .. They don't make any money from me :) .. but people will doubtless continue to buy them .. and the more publicity they get, whether on or off the net, the better pleased they'll be imo. Caryl |
