MEAT Loaf’s fan club has backed our campaign to raise money for two North East charities.

Next week the rock superstar will take part in a penalty shoot-out at St James’s Park in Newcastle to raise funds for the cancer charities Maggies and the Toma Fund.

We ran a competition for readers to bid to take penalty shots at Meat next week in the fundraiser and when his UK fan club found out, they decided to help too.

Meat has agreed to help our backing of both the Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre planned for the Freeman Hospital and the Toma Fund set up to raise money for a Tyneside teenage cancer unit.

“Many of Meat’s fans, like myself, would love to participate in a penalty shoot with Meat but are unfortunately unable to attend the event,” said Diane Le Page, of the Meat Loaf UK fan club.

“I live in the Channel Islands and have already made flight arrangements to travel to England two days after the penalty shoot to attend all Meat’s UK shows.

“We wholeheartedly want to support you and Meat and the fan club management team has looked at ways whereby fans who can’t attend could still help with fundraising. We had some very special books printed as a thank-you gift to all our paid-up members when we discontinued the subscription side of the club last year.

“They have never been made available to buy. These books are a 50-page full colour photo souvenir of all the tours Meat has performed in the UK over the nine years this club has been in existence. All the photos are of excellent quality, taken by fans and exclusive to the Fan Club.

“We have 21 of these books left over and would like to donate them to your cause by way of making them available on our website. We would plan to sell them at £10 each with all the proceeds going to your cause.

“We would only ask that buyers pay us the cost of postage which would be in addition to the cost of the items. We also have other merchandise, including fan club magazines, badges, mugs, T-shirts, etc which we would also like to offer over the next week as special packages, again with all proceeds going to your cause.

“We would like to make it clear that the sale is open to everyone, though people will need to register on our site to be able to place an order. Registration is free.

“As a further incentive for fans to make a purchase we are happy to donate a Bat Out Of Hell III CD which Meat autographed. Everyone who makes a purchase would qualify for a free draw.”
