Default Taking "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" To The Country

Hi, there! First-time poster, long-long-loooong-time Meat Loaf fan...

I thought you guys might be interested in hearing a new, countrified version of the epic BOOH ballad "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad".

The artist's name is Dawn McCoy, and she works out of Nashville. She's a long-time ML fan, and just like the man himself, she's a Dallas, TX native.

"Two Out Of Three..." appears on her new independently released debut album Sweet Time, and if you'd like you can hear her interpretation on her MySpace music player here:

http://www.myspace.com/dawnmccoy

or on her Facebook music player here:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dawn-McCoy/25484855932

It's also available at all major digital stores, and in physical form at Amazon.com.

If a Country take on "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" seems like an odd choice, you may want to check out Jim Steinman talking about writing the song on the 1999 VH1 Classic Albums DVD. He explains that he originally wrote it as a Country song, and was trying to evoke the dusty plains of Texas...

Dawn's version is more in that vein, and isn't just a carbon-copy of the original. Because you can never top a beloved ballad like "Two Out Of Three...", she lovingly and respectfully reimagined it -- softening the approach some, and calling on different-but-right-on instrumentation (check out the intro, response background "vocals", and solo by pedal steel guitar legend Lloyd Green -- known for his work with Don Williams, Charley Pride, The Byrds, Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette).

BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris has picked up the song for his Saturday Programme and Thursday Country Programme, and it will likely be Dawn's 2nd single from Sweet Time.

Though I know it'd be near-impossible to top the original for you (me too!), I thought you'd appreciate what Dawn has done with such a spectacular song, and wanted to let you know of its existence.

Best wishes for a wonderful 2009 to Meat Loaf and all his loyal fans!!!

Please see the forum rules concerning spam on the forum.

A first post containing an advertisment normally results in an instant lifetime ban.

However, i'm happy to let this one slide (although I may be over ruled on that) as there is a link to Meat (well, at least to one of his songs).

That said, I also don't wish to see duplicate threads, or the thread to be bumped .
That happens and the spam rule falls right back in place and the thread/threads will be deleted.

But until then, welcome to the forum, and feel free to join in the Meat Loaf related convo

I like this version. It's different to hear that song sung by a woman and in more country style. Not bad. "Two out of three" is a true classic.

But where did everything from "You'll never find your gold on a sandy beach..." to "...Cracker Jack box" go?

there are lots of country versions of this song, so this isn't as original as you make it sound...this one is ok i guess.
