Default What if there was a new Very Best Of?

What would you want on it? Not what should be on it. Bearing in mind a CD is about 76 minutes long and you can only have two discs!

Bat Out Of Hell
Dead Ringer For Love
Blind As A Bat
It Just Won't Quit
I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back
Modern Girl
Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad
Everything Louder Than Everything Else
I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us
Bad For Good
Objects In The Rear View Mirror

I'd Do Anything For Love
The Monster Is Loose
Not A Dry Eye In The House
You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth
Surf's Up
Testify
Lost Love
Read 'Em And Weep
Paradise By The Dasboard Light
Prize Fight Lover
Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through
For Crying Out Loud

Honourable mentions go to Frying Pan, Original Sin, Pig and the remix of MATLAF.

Some immense choices on there! I can't see Martha but hey you can't have everything

Probably doesn't count as it never made it to the final album but I would love Decadent Wish to get the attention it deserves, so I'd switch Lost Love for that. I'd swap Prize Fight Lover for All Revved Up, Monster's Loose for If It Rains or Peace On Earth, and I'd take Surf's Up off just because I could!!!!!!

Other than that, immense!

Too lazy to put them in a particular order and to check the running time, but these are gems that should not be missing from such a compilation:

Cry Over Me
Special Girl
Cry To Heaven
You're Right, I Was Wrong
"Lesbian" Love
Fiesta De Las Almas Perdidas
Forever Young
Did You Ever Love Somebody
Man Of Steel
45 Seconds Of Ectasy
Because Of You
Rock 'n' Roll Hero
If God Could Talk
You Can Never Be Too Sure About That Girl
Don't You Look At Me Like That
Burning Down
Do It!
A Man And A Woman
Where Angels Sing
Masculine (the American classic!)

I don't want any new Very Best Of, not unless Meat & Jim got together again and added a couple of new songs.

Was thinking about this today, as it goes. I'd expect a singles retrospective with couple of new ones a la Bon Jovi's Crossroads et al. That sort of thing.
For the new tracks, my preference, and in my ideal world, would be some Meaty renditions of some of the 'lost' Steinman songs.

I made "Best Of" compilations on itunes, but they were all well more than 2 discs. I can't even fit my favorites off of the three Bat albums on two discs...

...but what the hell...

Disc 1 (time - 1:10:10)

01 - Bat Out Of Hell
02 - Modern Girl
03 - Dead Ringer For Love
04 - Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad
05 - I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
06 - You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)
07 - Read 'Em And Weep
08 - Paradise By The Dashboard Light
09 - Objects In The Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are
10 - Couldn't Have Said It Better
11 - Heaven Can Wait

Disc 2 (time - 1:12:1

01 - Home By Now/No Matter What
02 - Original Sin
03 - Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through
04 - Did I Say That
05 - Living On The Outside
06 - Blind As A Bat
07 - Left In The Dark
08 - Out Of The Frying Pan (And Into The Fire)
09 - More Than You Deserve
10 - Bad For Good
11 - Elvis In Vegas

I'm not understanding why some are are wanting a 'very best of' CD when they've probably already got all the songs and some several times over

This has to be my opinion too...kinda pointless having the same songs over and over again, just in a different order. It would definitely need a couple of new songs...

...which is why in my list I included three new ones, in the same way Kiss, Home by Now and Is Nothing Sacred were included on the first Very Best Of

My original list contained roughly forty songs, I had to cut it down Lots of tough choices

Disk 1:79.78 Minutes (1 Hour, 19 minutes)
1. You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (5:05)
2. Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back (8:00)
3. What Part Of My Body Hurts The Most (4:42)
4. Bad For Good (7:33)
5. Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad (5:26)
6. Dead Ringer For Love (4:21)
7. Couldn’t Have Said It Better (7:07)
8. Left In The Dark (7:13)
9. More Than You Deserve (6:56)
10. Blind As A Bat (5:51)
11. Out Of The Frying Pan (And Into The Fire) (7:23)
12. I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) (12:01)

Disk 2:86.98 Minutes (1 Hour, 26 Minutes)
1. Paradise by the Dashboard Light (8:29)
2. Where The Rubber Meets The Road (4:58 )
3. Modern Girl (4:26)
4. Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through (5:51)
5. In the Land of the Pig, the Butcher is King (5:30)
6. Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are (10:16)
7. Elvis in Vegas (6:01)
8. For Crying Out Loud (8:45)
9. Original Sin (6:04)
10. Read Em And Weep (5:24)
11. Braver Than We Are (9:07)
12. Bat out of Hell (9:51)
13. We’re Still The Children (4:56)

Yes, I have too much time on my hands

Since we don't know how long some of the songs would actually be if they were recorded by Meat, it theoretically could be possible that they'd all fit on the disk(s).

You cant actually fit 79 minutes onto a CD, its needs leeway to finalize. 76-77 minutes can actually fit.

Id guess you could edit a few repetitive "Objects" verses and have that CD wind up 76 minutes foir disk 2 and disk 1 just cut the repeat of the first verse to frying pan (its tricky but Ive done it successfully)

Otherwise become Meats manager and get that released...

@Megan
I agree with you. My Ipod is loaded up with all Meat's songs. If I set that on shuffle I have my own very best of. Of course if a new VBO came out then I would be sure to buy it. Especially for the new cover or a picture of Meat as the cover :).

What I'd like to see are more live recordings released of past and present. I had a version of 2 out of 3 where Meat's ad lib in the middle of it was so great. This was way back on a cassette I had made. I love my Casa Live CD that came with HCTB. Even if it was a song I already have, Meat's live performances are always different...he does different ad libs all the time.

Indeed. Most software allow you to take out the 2 second gaps. You can get VERY,VERY close to 80 minutes believe me and that's even if with text info on the disc.

Haven't got quite enough time to think about all the tracks now, but can I just say that I would prefer it if the tracks are in chronological release order on the CD? That way, you can listen to them in the "correct" order, or hit shuffle and enjoy the randomness. It really is a win win

I don't see "I'd Lie For You" in the lists. That's one of my favorites- one of Diane Warren's best or maybe it's just Meat & Patti's performance of the song. "What About Love" is another favorite of mine.
