Default 111. All Of Me

This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!

All Of Me (6)

So after 30 times of listening Meat's new album I start this thread again. I tell you, I am not a fan of this album as well but I think it's better than HCTB. But... There was 1 song on HCTB what I really loved (Song Of Madness) and for me HIAHB is the only album from 1977 which has no great song. In contrast to HIAHB, Midnight and Blind Before I Stop had good songs (Razor's Edge and Execution Day are 8 for me) but had very bad songs as well. I think HIAHB has no very bad song (some songs shock me but these are not bad) but no good either, so I think this album is average without surprise...

About All Of Me... One of the average song on the album. It's not powerful, it's just going on and on and on. I love the intro of the song (and the outro of the album) but after that I was bored. It's not bad, it's not special. It's a just a song...

My score: 6

I will refrain from commenting until I've heard the UK release.

I disagree. I think that if all you want from Meat Loaf are the bombastic and huge ballads of the past, then that's the place to go and look for them. HIAB is subtle (in comparison). That's probably why I like it so much.

Assuming this mix of the song is going to be the same on the international release, then it gets a 6 from me. I really like the piano solo at the end AND how it finishes. The last bit of the song is amazing :P But other than that...it's pretty bland. The piano riff is far too similar to the one in What About Love for my liking. If it wasn't sung by Meat Loaf, I would have never given it as many chances as I did. That's probably the only reason it's still on my iPod.

Plus, it's not an album opener. At all. In my ever so humble opinion, this is possibly the weakest start to a Meat Loaf album since Razor's Edge.

I wholeheartedly agree although my reasons for liking it so much differ. Those reasons aren't important to the thread, so I'll pass on expounding.

Since I received it from JB Hi-Fi whenever - very early October? - there are very few days when I haven't listened to it.

If you ask me the worst opening song was Peace On Earth. Meat was speaking and not singing. I agree, All Of Me is a mix of What About Love, CHSIB and I'd Lie For You but the song doesn't work. In the middle of the song Meat's vocal is weak. The piano outro is amazing...

Why bother making a thread about individual HIAHB songs if your not that thrilled about it?

Its like going through and dissing everything in detail. Meat's gonna love that.

ah well, in the spirit of Christmas, who gives a jolly well ~~~~ ? :P

I agree. This is Meat singing from his own heart rather than in character; subtle and perfectly put together.

All Of Me is one of the best songs on the album, powerful and a great opener as it sets out Meat's stall, in much the same way as Peace on Earth was a powerful and great opener to HCTB and set the theme of the album right at the start.

I love this song which for me is pure Meat and rate it 10.

I don't rate songs by a number, I don't think that just a number can truly convey the amount of thoughts and feelings a song can stir up. I also believe that a person's perspective of a song can vary depending on their mood at the time.

I love the song 'All Of Me'.

This album is about Meat, he’s sharing his frustrations, his insecurities and what better way to set the tone for such an album that with a song that says quite simply ‘this is all of me’. It's a song that asks that you accept someone for who they are, with all their faults and emotions and I think that is a great message in a world where people aren't accepted for who they are.

The songs on Hell in A Handbasket suit his voice the way it is now, reflecting maturity and wisdom. If his vocals aren't what some people would consider perfect then that's their opinion but I think his voice is perfect for telling these stories through song.

5 years ago this forum had more active member than now. A few songs had 30-40 different votes. So, I started this thread because I was bored of reading topics like 'Which Meat album is the best?'. And see arguing for example when WarioLoaf say that Masculine was the best and others say that you were mad. This thread is the chance to see usually the Meat fans which albums and songs like the most...

Perhaps there were more people who were prepared to award "marks out of 10" for individual songs? I recall a recent time when you did this exercise and you said the results were flawed because some (me included) gave everything 10 out of 10. There are some songs which resonate less strongly with me at times, but if I love listening to every song on an album why on earth would I rate any of them less than fully meeting my hopes and expectations? (There are only two things I'd ever skip on a Meat album .. and those are the Steinman monologues which have never appealed to me at all.)

Like Jenna, I never rate songs by a number because it can't convey the feelings a song provokes, different songs will resonate more strongly than others depending on one's mood, and to me it smacks of an expert teacher grading papers.

But these are exactly the kind of arguments that asking people to rate songs out of 10 is likely to provoke. You rate what I consider a simply wonderful song 6, and I am likely to think you are mad, or incredibly critical. I don't have any great interest in trying to define what a handful of fans like most in terms of albums or individual songs. What does it mean when all is said and done?

If you went to the whole Meat fan-base you'd find I think that BOOH, AFL, Paradise, Took the Words, would be the top rated songs (plus Dead Ringer in the UK). These get the loudest roar of approval when Meat performs them, and to the majority of fans are the ones which probably resonate most strongly with them .. but what does that mean or say about Meat's work? Most of them would be likely to say his best album is BOOH, and if asked would say it rated 10 out of 10, because that's the one they know best and have lived with for years, but it says nothing about the quality of his other, or indeed his newest albums. I would find it invidious to even attempt to compare for eg BOOH, CHSIB, HCTB and HIAH. Each is of its time in his musical career. To me none is "better" than the other, each is a milestone on a journey that I continue to love 10 out of 10.

How about rating the songs out of 100 or maybe out of 1.

6.5 it is the weakest opener for a Meat album.

The worst opener? If it is then that says something for the others.
Do you think they sat down and said let's write a song that sounds like WAL, CHSIB and ILFY?
All Of Me is solid. Nothing more, nothing less!!
