Default Humorous Lines

Hey all,
I was involved in a very interesting Meat Loaf discussion last night with my boyfriend (he's a proffesional Jazz guitarist, and doesn't generally talk about rock music) and his roomate (who's a BIG Zappa fan, and dislikes Meat Loaf).

It was cool, however, because I got to hear how much what I say about Meat and his music affects my bf -cause he kept, very eloquently, defending Meat's work!!

Here's the interesting part; we were discussing some of the inherent humour in Jim's Lyrics, and Meat's onstage persona...(my bf's roomate insists that Jim's humour is inferior to Zappa's).which got me to thinking:

Everyone:
what's your favorite 'funny bit' from Meat over the years?

I'd have to say my favorite is;
"and can't you see my faded Levis, bursting apart"
GENIUS! Such a sad, serious soung with such a great little joke in the middle, any thoughts?

LD,
for me it's the line "I'll bet you say that to alllll the boys". Something about the delivery, it just cracks me up.

Did a funny thing at our last family Christmas here at our house. I had the chance to use the line and so I thought...how many more Meat lines can I logically insert in the conversation that night. Think I came up with 4, don't remember what they all were.

Of course nobody caught on except Julie. When everyone left she said..what, are you crazy? It's fun thing to do, try it sometime. OK, maybe I AM crazy.

Of course a close second fave is "Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere". Love it.

Default Using the lines

It's true, T really did use as many lines as he could come up with during our Christmas dinner.

I think it was more than 4, but I was pretty embarrassed when I would start chuckling over nothing (You get strange looks from the family).

The family already thinks we are nuts and this just added to it. How do you explain all this to non-believers?

Well, I just smiled and said nothing at all.....

My favorite has to be when I was at my friends house for dinner. I can't remember what we were talking about at the time, but all of a sudden her little son looked at me and burst out singing "Stop Right There !" :) I burst out laughing because all I could think of was Patti and Meat doing Paradise

My favorite is " Got a shrink in the bed. Lord, sitting on the headboard. Swearin' that we both got raped"

LD,
share w/ us, does your boyfriend have a favorite Meat line?

Sounds like you have shared enough that he is ready to defend Maet to his friend. Very cool.

LD - sounds like your boyfriends room mate and my husband are the same person! Every time I play a Meat CD he goes on about how Zappa does it all so much better and his humour is tongue-in-cheek rather than childish I don't think he'll ever be convinced because of course, he is always right (or so he keeps telling me!)

I like the line from 'Everything Louder..' - 'If you want my views on history then theres something you should know, the three men I admire most are Curly, Larry and Mo'

It always makes me think that life should not be taken too seriously.

We once had a drunken conversation tryign to match ex-girlfriends to the girls in

"Bless all the cheerleaders down on the track,
They're glistening like diamonds with sweat on their abcks"

You've all had me laughing all day, reading these-i'm gonna print them out and give them to his roomate!

T-BUck- well I don't know if it's because of Todd Rundgren in 'classic albumn's but my bf's favorite line is;

"but there aint no coupe-de-ville, hiding at the bottom of a cracker jack box."

The way he was explaining the humour to his roomate, however, was quite clever. My boyfriend's a pretty big guy..think Meat Loaf circa 1978, but with long blonde hair, instead of brown. I don't know if this is why, but my boyfriend was explaining that the best joke for him in Meat's work is the whole story of Paradise by the Dashboard light, this is sort of what my boyfriend said to his roomate...

"okay, so i'm listening to this guy singing his heart out, in a tuxedo to this girl that "all the kids at school" want to be with, and he's the big guy...so I'm cheering for him, ya! that's it get the girl, make all those muscle-bound jocks jealous! But the girl keeps stopping him, wanting to know if he loves her, and if he'll marry her, and i'm like yah, okay so she's acting like a woman, but get her!! Then at the end of the song, you find out he's just like every other asshole, praying for the end of time, cause he promised it all for a one night stand. I couldn't stop laughing, because you think he's the underdog until the last verse, then you realize he's not the underdog, hes a dog like all the others...that's really funny!"

My all time favorite would have to be:
"Surf's Up And So Am I"

I mean, if that isn't an erotic cry for of desparation then I don't know what is.

Following on from the earlier comment about working song lyrics into conversations, I decided to try it!!

At work I tried to get in as many lyrics as I could manage. No one spotted for most of the day. Until mid-afternoon, when i was serving a lass and she made some sort of comment. I replied "Well, I chouldn't have sad iut better myself". Now she must have twigged what i was doing as she turned round and started singing the song!!!!!! Bith of us did an impromptu rendition in the shop to the delight of the customers!!!!
