Default The top 10 Meat Loaf shows of all time?

Rank your top 10, be it shows you were at, or heard by other means :)

Personally:
  1. State Theatre 2012:aka the misadventures of Chris and Suzie and the police.
Apart the experiences before the show including the M&G (got a kick outta my GOT MEAT LOAF? shirt), the show itself of course was fantastic. Especially Giving Tree.
  2. Birmingham 1988:(Probably the concert I listen to the most, its perfection)
Combine the best Bad For Good, Lost Boys Golden Girls, and Masculine you have the best show ever.
  3. Edinburgh 1988: Birmingham is more complete and I personally prefer the quality of that show to this, but this also has gotten a fair amount of play as my second most played live recording. The Lost Boys Tour was legendary.
  4. Offenbach 1984: Hammersmith Odeon 1984 is a bit better quality (they both are fantastic for 80s recordings) but this show stands out to me because of Piece of the Action. That sounds weird, but while both have heartfelt tributes to Wells Kelly it felt much more emotional this show. Plus, while meat sounds fantastic on both, he was just a TAD better here. and only slightly.
  5. PNC Arena July 2010: THe HCTB Tracks plus Hot Patootie were officially released and you can hear how great Meat sounded compared to his previous two tours. The HCTB Tour as a whole was great, with a great recording available from Mohegan Sun, but this concert was special. I just graduated HS and it was my graduation gift.
  6. Cardiff 1993: Cardiff appears twice on this list. The quintessential Bat 2 Tour recording, and tho Objects is glitched to all hell, Rock & Roll Dreams alone sets this apart and brings it onto this list. The quality doesn't lose points either. This show needs no introduction. Neil told me how great it was, and I know many others here went. Lucky ~~~~~~~s.
  7. Beacon 1995: This show really needs no introduction. Pretty much 50% of Live Around the World and a great second disk to the WTTN CD Set. Meat's on freaking point and has provided some of my favorite versions of songs such as Rubber and Bat
  8. Sheffield 1987: The best thing about Sheffield 1987 is the undying energy Meat has and that god-like late 80s voice. Containing the BEST version of Two out of Three, with a woman hoping onstage and being escorted, to Meat performing a gay marriage to a KILLER version of Burning Down this show has it all.
  9. Cardiff 2003: This show sounds liek it was a ball of fun, and it features the premiere of an old vet: Midnight at the Lost & Found. Extended Banter, EXTENDED SONGS, and a fun atmosphere, this show must've been fun! Toronto 1993 almost made it on instead!
  10. Bergen Community College 1989: 1989 Meta sounded SO GOOD. like SO GOOD. Such a passionate show with my second favorite version of Revved up and my favorite rocknroll medley arrangement with Around and Around. Bless my soul this mustve also been a really fun show!!

Probably more the "memorable top 10" for me:

1. Manchester 2013.
Just very special last show of the last at bat tour and last show with patti probably. Things might not be the same again I guess. Amazing energy. Amazing show and super audience.

2. Royal Albert hall 2006
Not with patti but a monumental show I will never forget. The whole audience was rooting for meat so much I've never experienced something like that at another show...ever... Even Michael Jackson!

3. Glasgow secc 30th Jan 2004
Awesome audience and easily the longest meat show I've been to. Maybe not meats best vocals but it was very special. No curfew it seemed and meat finished at 1130pm.

4. O2 arena London 2013
To fill THAT place. Wow! It was a good show but I think the May ones I saw in Manchester and Nottingham topped it.

5. London excel 2008
It was a super fun show and the energy was great. Slightly marred by the poor Amsterdam show two days later. If that crowd had seen a similar show to London I'm guessing the fan base would have stayed stronger during that period in the Netherlands.

6. Rotterdam 1996
My first meat loaf show and very special. Hearing the audience take over the afl chorus from meat gave me chills. At 3 hours it was super long and the paradise theatre part lasted well over half an hour alone. Great setlist. No messing about. Spectacular light show from what I remember too.

7. Liverpool 2008
It was the first m&g for me so quite special just because of that but also a great show after what happened in Newcastle 2007 and subsequent cancellations (I had a "bat pit" ticket for Wembley 2007 November which got cancelled)

8. Nottingham 2008
Probably the best vocals from meat during the 6 night run I followed on the casa tour. Quite memorable.

9. Liverpool 2005
Memorable show. Vip meal was good. Lovely marquis.

10. Wembley arena 2010
It's an awesome venue (who in their right mind would let sponsors rename it?!) and it was an awesome show.

Meat rarely tours near me so I have a limited number of live shows. For me nothing will ever top the 1993 show at the Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, NC very early in the Bat 2 tour before they moved to playing large houses. Perfect venue for acoustics, perfect view, and Meat was so stoked by Bat 2's success that he was a ball of fire (FireBall) for the whole show and his voice never missed a single note and he even started "showing off" his voice and I have never in my 50 plus years heard a voice like that.

As for recordings the History of Meat Loaf TV shows and the WTTN show were amazing as was that strange empty TV studio show that was recorded.

As Wario mentioned Birmingham was a fantastic show. Meat's voice here was so good, and it is sad he wasn't recording Steinman songs rather than stuff like BBIS. From what I have read a singer with an operatic style voice like Meat's does not come into full strength until he is older and from around 1987-1989 was his prime age. Many experts say singing like he did in his 20's and doing so many intense shows and long songs that were vocally demanding did some harm to his vocal chords, but he came back nicely in the late 80's and again in the late 90's around the Storytellers shows. I have only heard a tape of one or two of the Storytellers tour and they were great also.

Just listened to Birmingham again and that version of "Bad For Good" surpasses anything ever captured in the studio. That should be the definitive version. I wish they had tried to recreate it in studio for Bat 3.

That version of "Bad For Good" for me is one of the most thrilling performances I've ever seen from Meat. The "For the good..." section particularly. There are no words... Also, love Amy (or Elaine?) at the start singing "Original sin".

These songs were being tried out for Bat 2, yes? Not quite sure at the moment.

Think I've only done around 10! Manchester on LAB was really special for me.

I don't know why but I feel Atlantic City in November is going to be a highlight.
