Default Which Meat Loaf songs do you prefer live to that on the record?

Perhaps it is time for a new thread.....

Some songs just seem to sound so much better live than that on a record.

My personal favourites are Frying Pan and Rock and Roll Dreams. They sounded good on Bat 2 but Meat takes them to a different level when sung live.

On the flip side Anything for Love is my favourite ever recorded song, however sung live it sometimes leaves me a little flat.

Any views....?

Live is a completely different medium, so it's a bit like comparing Apples and oranges when comparing live to the records.

I think it would be quicker to list which songs don't sound better live:

For Crying Out Loud
Bad Attitude
Anything For Love
Rock And Roll Dreams
Objects In The Rear View Mirror
Did I Say That?
Blind As A Bat

The question is about "prefer" .. and as to me Meat has always been so much more than a unique voice, diction and passion when on stage, I'd have to say my preference would always be live. The voice, diction and passion are clear to hear on studio recordings, but to SEE that passion, that energy, to be embraced by the spectacle of the show ... that adds a huge dimension for me that simply cannot be captured in a recording I would say that any song I have seen him perform live is then enhanced when I hear it on a record though, as I can bring some of that extra dimension into my listening

I never said that. Just that I think the studio version sounds better than any live version I've heard. And has all the right words in the right order

I prefer Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through from the Storytellers DVD to the one on the record. Or at least the ending to it. Much better when Meat keeps singing "yeah they're gonna come through". Love it.

I kind of prefer "Bad for Good" from the 1988 tour to the one on Bat III. It was closer to the original arrangement (I love Brian May and his solos weren't bad, but I felt like it was needless change for the sake of change), it had a certain energy the record lacked, and no words were rewritten without explanation. (I was also pleasantly surprised when the arrangement featured on 3 Bats Live, barring adjustments to include some of the Brian May sound, basically went back to that version of the song.)

Agree with the people saying Rock & Roll Dreams. The 2010-onward arrangement is fantastic.

Left in the Dark is another song I think was massively improved live. It's not as sterile as the studio version.

All of the Bad Attitude stuff from the 1985 video. I wish the album sounded like that.
Objects on Live around the world is even cooler than Bat 2.

For example: Masculine. It's even better on "Live At Wembley" (live recording) than on "Blind Before I Stop" album (studio album).

As EVil One said, its quicker to list was DOESNT and his list is fairly teh same as mine. except rock and roll dreams and Objects

Objects live at hudson theater (aka the Live around the world version for the casual) is Meats greatest live performance of a single song ever.

But personally as expected MASCULINE is my favorite live translation.

BURNING DOWN close freaking second. Ashame no board is publiclly accesable of that one.

Gonna have to go with everyone else, Rock And Roll Dreams is fantastic live, I'd actually say the live version of it can on some days become one of my top 5 songs.

Agree with Wario on the Live Around the World version of Objects.

Being honest there are so many. Meat is fantastic on the albums but live he really brings the songs into a whole new world. I'm not the biggest fan of the material but a lot of the Blind Stuff sounded better on the 'Live' album too and also on the various bootlegs I've heard.

---

Not quite on the same topic but the two tracks I would like to hear live are Just Won't Quit and Surfs Up. Would love to hear how they sounded in a live environment.

interestingly, or not, both blind as a bat and rock n roll dreams, which i've said many times i'm not a fan off, sound so much more interesting and powerful on the live arrangements, to my ears anyway
