Hi Pinky,
Cool topic! From middle school to high school I was a serious Paul Simon fan, which was a bit odd considering that it was the 1980's, and he only put out maybe 2 albums the whole decade. I was also into 80's punk bands like The Dead Milkmen and The Alarm. I also really liked a handful of singer/songwriters (and still do) like James Taylor, Lou Reed, John Mellencamp, Billy Joel. Then my senior year of high school I discovered Meat Loaf.....and the rest is history. Sherrie |

How could I forget the Stones? "Shattered" always brings back great memories (because my high school crush and I always sat in the back of Spanish class and sang it), and my other favorite Stones songs are "Gimme Shelter" (which Meat has done a hella good version of), "Honkey Tonk Woman" (ditto for Meat's version), "Brown Sugar" and "Sympathy for the Devil". Now I'm gonna have to get out my Stones CD's when I get home!

Well this 53 year old lady, remembers The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, Cream, Yes, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Cupids Inspiration, The Beach Boys, lots and lots of various Motown Artists and then an introduction to Meat in the early 70's with Stoney, my fate was sealed, as you can see my tastes range from the swinging 60's mostly, with whom I 'grew up' and danced to.
There are other groups I listen to i.e. Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, Areosmith, John Denver, and Rod Stewart, and probably many others to many to list here. |

Um. . .hi, a post from me, oh you lucky people. . .
Well, I'm still growing up I guess, so here's what I'm into at the mo. I'm into The Smiths in a big way now. Also a lot of 80's post punk bands e.g. Joy Division. Who else, oh yes, R.E.M., Talking Heads, The Beatles, Nirvana, U2, David Gray, The Cranberries, Travis (only The Man Who, the rest is tosh), Beck, Depeche Mode has had a huge impact on me lasdt year. Oh, yes, Meat Loaf as well. All these have gotten many spins lately. But, The Smiths. Ah yes, their brilliance surpasses anything I've ever heard, or maybe I just relate to the bedroo, depressed, teenager scenario. . .well, I dunno, but they've made some cracking tunes. (Oh yes, and The Sex Pistols are good) |

Aside from Meat Loaf, I was into the grunge/punk scene and liked Nirvana, Siouxie, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, Rancid, Four Non Blondes, Ramones, The Donnas...
Nowadays, apart from Meat Loaf, my favorites are: Tom Waits, Blondie, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, and (still) The Pixies (have a cat named Velouria)- Also- I very much enjoy The Darkness. cheers! |

At first time I was a big fan of CC Catch and Samantha Fox! I didn't know their music but their naked photos are on my wall when I was 5-6 years old! Later I became a fan of a big man with a big voice. I've seen a video with him at the end of '80. After I forgot him and 5 years later I heard again this man! He was Meat Loaf and the first song what I've heard at first time was - I think - a live version of For Crying Out Loud.
But then I was a big fan of Bon Jovi and Europe but since '95 I've been Meat Loaf fan again... |

What I listen to
My first favourite artist was Meat Loaf. Later it was No Doubt, then Lene Marlin, Kasim Sulton, and Evanescence.

This is a toughie! There have been so many besides Meat...
Because I had much older brothers, my love of music started early on with the girl groups--the Shirelles, Mary Wells, Ronnettes, the Crystals... and on the male side of things--Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, of course. The folks song years with Dylan and the Kingston Trio, the Limelighters, Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell...From there into the British years with the Beatles and the Stones...the Animals...so many more...And then, I moved into Crosby, Stills and Nash, Chicago, the Doobie Brothers, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkle...Tina Turner--what an odd mix of a list, isn't it?!! We used to go see Harry Chapin in concert every single year. We sang one of his songs at our wedding. We had just gotten tickets to bring my folks along for the first year, when the news came over the radio that Harry had been killed in a car crash. It was 10 years before I could listen to his music without crying...Isn't it amazing how deeply music and the people who perform it touch our hearts and change our worlds?!! And I can't forget on the female side of things--Carly Simon. She suffers from Panic Disorder, just like I do. She's one of my heroes!!! I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts here. I know I've forgotten lots on my list, but....it would be impossible to name all the singers, besides Meat, who have brought joy into my life.... Thanks for a great topic! Love to you all, MB xxx |

I first became really interested in music around 1969. I was really into the top singles of that era. Singles from such artists such as Jackson Five, Kinks, Gary Puckett & Union Gap, Simon & Garfunkel, Free, Thunderclap Newman. John Lennon, Norman Greenbaum, Zager & Evans, Rod Stewart and Canned Heat have remained life long favourites
But I became a huge Elvis fan before it was fashionable to be so. From about 1970 to his death in 1977 I collected all his recordings. I have since sold all the vinyl but have replaced them with a virtually complete Elvis song collection on CD Meat of course then made an impact on me in 1978. I had never heard such powerful material - and as they say the rest is history! |

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I grew up with all that techno stuff... In my "teenie"-days (well, not THAT long ago in fact ) I listened to stuff like Mark 'Oh, Rednex, East 17, Caught In The Act, Take That, Kelly Family... I mean, it'f funny when I think back on this. And at the age of 12 I caught the "musical fever", was a huge musical fan (I saw "Starlight Express" around 50 times...), and then thanks to a favourite musical actor of mine was introduced to one of my all-time-favourite band: The Beatles. And thanks to friends and my dad, to Queen. So this was my first step to "REAL" music.

Being semi ancient my early favourites were Cliff Richard, Elvis,Billy Fury, Buddy Holly, Girlie groups Shirrelles, Crystals, Ronnettes, followed by Beatles, Rolling Stones, Searchers -the whole Merseybeat lot. Then I just sort of fell into Meat Loaf in the 70's. Unfortunately there are too many to list and, with my failing memory, too many to remember. :P
