Default Tenuous Claims to Fame

Inspired by something I heard on the radio last week ..

What's your most tenuous claim to fame?

Here are two of mine to get the ball rolling and give you the idea:

1) I went to primary and junior school with Hugo Speer (star of The Full Monty, Hearts and Bones and the new BBC one drama to be screened this week). Once I got him a playtime detention becuase I was on "indoor shoe duty" and he tried to sneak into school after lunch with his outdoor shoes on.

2) I've met Ronnie Corbet. He was in his garden and I was on the golf course that his garden (country estate!) backs onto. I was stood behind a bush at the time (ahem) answering a call of nature and he greeted me with the following "Good afternoon, enjoying the course?" to which I replied "yes" in a somewhat strained voice (considering I was slightly pre-occupied). He then uttered the following immortal line "Hope you find your ball in that stuff, the undergrowth is terrible for losing them in" ...

I appeared on the cover of the Daily Sport staggering out of a nightclub, absolutely blind drunk, clutching an equally drunk aquaintance.

And i went to school with, and a couple of years ago briefly dated, a girl who went on to "fame" in crimewatch reconstructions and the occasional TV ad.

When I was younger, the guy who lived opposite us was in the Wombles, i'll never forget when he came home in his costume, we thought he was the best thing since sliced bread.... okay I was a lot younger then.

Oh and before anyone asks, he was Wellington

I ran into Manchester's own Derek Acorah a few feeks ago.

We were both in the same fast food chicken place.
I made no ghost jokes.
I didn't say anything but he knew I recognised him from my high pitched giggling.

My Mam knows someone who knows Sean Bean's ex wife.
One of my friends at college is a distant cousin of Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame.
My godmother and very distant relative has a cousin who is Michael Kitchen (Inspector Foyle of ITV's Foyle's War).

I met Meat Loaf!! lol

Erm....back in January I worked a casino at the birthday party of Andy from Journey South, they were lovely. When I was about 11 I was blown a kiss by Brian Robson, which at the time I was thrilled about but looking back...oh dear! And when we were all still at school someone I know who is a fabulous musician did a national TV competition with a very young Gareth Gates.

A friend from school though, he's cousin's with Marcus Bentley who is the Geordie voice over on Big Brother, and his Mum is related to Brian Ferry ( which my mum was very excited about! )

Well besides Meat! :

Managed to grab a few words and photos with Richard O'Brien, (who was wearing his best frock and heals higher than even I would dare to totter around in), Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders at a charity Rocky Horror Ball in Manchester a few years ago. They were all very friendly people and happy to spend time to talk with everyone. Richard O'Brien was a very gracious host.

Also met Murray Walker when he was in Guernsey for a book signing. He's a lovely man.

Oliver Reed lived in Guernsey for several years and I was at a few charity dinners that he attended. It was never dull when he was around ... he was a really colourful character!

I used to work with high profile politicians once. But would that be a terrorist activity now?

Many moons ago, the Seekers limo ran over my foot!

Does meeting Meat count?

Ok, besides Meat, I've gotten my mug in the papers a few times, due to activities I've been involved with over the yrs, like the horticulturial society and dog shows.

I waved to the Queen once.
I met Paul Crook once.
I have a few famous cousins, but only within Australia.
I met Jimeoin twice. ALong with some other comedians.
Politicians. I nearly ran one over once, still not sure why I braked...
And an awful lot of football teams.

I'll get back with the rest later!

I attended stage school in the early sixties (Barbara Speakes) and some of us young ones were chosen to appear as extras in the Beatles Film A Hard Days Night, sat next to Wilfred Brambell and Richard Lester during the filming...

My best friend's niece is married to Phil Tufnell.
I shook hands with Princess Diana.
Donald Sinden's dog (Gloria) goes to the same V.E.T. as my pets (I've met him there).
Tom Baker (Dr Who) says 'Good Morning' to me now when I see him shopping.
Joanna Lumley lived next door to my Gran & Grandad

Fantastic! Keep 'em coming :)

Some more I thought about on the long boring drive into the office this morning ...

I saved Teesside Polytechnic from burning down (more a claim to shame really I think)

I'm on the video for Bruce Springsteens Born To Run live single release from the late 80's (along with about 80 000 other peopel at Roundhay Park) and I'm also on Meat's Bad Attitude Live video (well my right hand is!)

I held the office record for being able to hold the most packets of Rolo's in my mouth without dribbling (3.5)

And of course ... for an all too brief moment at Blickling Hall last year, I played Bass with Meat and the NLE

Although he ain't exactly up there at the top yet, my cousins other cousin from different side of family is Shane Ward, winner of X Factor. One of the nicest people you could meet, down to earth and has not let winnig this get to his head. We are playing a charity football match all together in July to raise money for Hope Hospital in Manchester, along with Corrie stars and Man City players, this was arranged before Shane won, and still he is taking part.

You said tenuous, right?

One of my best friends nearly ran Cliff Richard over in my local Waitrose car park 'cos she was busy waving to Melvyn Hayes.

I've got numerous Discworld books signed by Terry Pratchett.

Melvyn Hayes, Gary from Eastenders and Sid Owen (Rickayyyyyy! from Eastenders) all live near me.

My hubby sang in the Royal Albert Hall as a child.

My sister-in-law is a (relatively) well-known artist.

Ummm... that's all, folks!

I once line-danced live on national TV!!
I can be briefly spotted in Brassed Off.
I hold the Tri-Village record for fitting the most number of KitKat fingers in my mouth sideways without breaking them (14!!)
I shook hands with Prince Phillip
I once tried to run over Alan Turner from Emmerdale.
I can be spotted in the pub in Hollyoaks drinking a pint of Apple juice!
and the one I am most proud of:
I once snogged the lady voted Britains Sexiest Woman by FHM magazine!!

Well since we can include Meat Loaf and people:

Kasim came looking for me.....and found me

-----

Also ones i remember;
I met James from Busted (well now Son of Dork) and he came up to me while I was going back to the venue and he asked me whether there was a playground close by....there wasn't, (although i should have said yes because the place he was on about was surrounded by chavs )

Met Foxy and Tom lots of times.....unfortuantly...
