Meat's voice peaked when he did the Melbourne DVD, he'll never top it...he was in top form!

Depends on what you mean. His studio vocals were at their best on Bat 1, but I didn't care for live performances around that time. My favorite live vocal period is now, especially from MSO and some of the clips I've heard from the HOTD tour.

I also think his best live vocals are now because Ithink his voice seems a little more powerful and emotional. However, I kind of like his vocals on Dead Ringer.

I think Bad Attitude sees Meat's voice in its prime.
Having saisd that tho, I listened to Welcome to the Neighbourhood alot when I was growing up and getting into music more than any of his other albums and so his modern stuff sounds like "Meat Loaf" to me. You know, when I conjure up the sound of Meat's voice in my head it certainly isn't his high-pitched Bat performance. It's Left in the Dark, Martha and Why Isn't That Enough? B. |

No, his voice was best in the 80's to me, especially live. But even today, his voice comes close to that. Bat 1 vocally too, was excellent.

Overdubbs, pitch etc
To me it was the best during the 88 Tour. That was truely amazing, if you listen to love her for both of us or any other song sung on this tour. Very powerful, kind of like on the live 87 official cd. Then what I personnally like is his voice on the 2nd leg of the 94 tour, when his voice was damaged, but raw and fully of screamings and power. That was a tour... I care less for his voice now, although it is still Meat and still good. To those who think the vocals for anything on bat 2 is authentic and that heard the live recordings or live shows where you can actually hear his real voice, I have to say you're pretty naive maybe because you don't know of todays technology possibilities. In the studio you can pitch the voice, record bits and assemble these bits together. I am a singer myself, I would love to hear my voice pitched up to get an idea what it sounds like but I cannot afford it because it is pretty expensive On anything for love he sounds like a 20 year old boy, voice 5 octave high. He was a bit older then (and he ain't younger than that now!). So don't fool yourself, this is not only meat but about any top 100 act you hear know. Wait to hear them live to know the actual voice of those artists! Even Céline Dion uses pitch on some songs!!
And to me some parts on the MSO are overdubbed, especially the beginning of Could n have said it better myself. Hear the live versions of the song taped live on tv, ain't the same. Now, it's good to be a fan and to love Meat's work (which I do, I owe anything he ever did), but don't be naive! Any official work contains overdubs. I think on Bat 2 the less arranged vocals would be objects and lost boys. This shows the most his original voice. Which is cool by the way! |

I've always known that about Bat 2, and quite frankly, I think he would have been better off without it. Not that I'm complaining, those are darn fine vocals, but I always like to hear a singer's real voice. I never realized that the songs were overdubbed on MSO.

Again, every artists use pitch, overdubbs. pink floyd even agreed in an interview they used some for their 1994 PULSE live album, especially on gilmour's voice (some parts were re-recorded in a studio), so this is not to critisize Meat's work. Only to be aware and not naive. Listen to I'd lie for you. Does anyone have a live version with the voice so high you would think he's a 20 year old 5 octavic voice?? This is OVER dubbed to the maximum, especially the choruses. He never sung it that way live. But in fact... I prefer the live versions! Especially the dramatic ends on the 96 tour. That was awsome! |

Yeah good point people should be aware that it's pretty standard practice to overdub at least a little bit on live recordings that are to be released.
Peter Gabriel is one of the most fanatical about that, but when he's so open about it you can't really feel too robbed can you?? |

The artist can take the mic away from there mouth for up to half a metre and you would still be able to hear them
