Default Dave Gellis never seems to get any love

He seems to be one of the forgotten members of the NLE. There were some shows where he played both lead and rhythm guitar all night due to there being no other guitarist so he wasn't too shabby. His solo during Two Out Of Three was pretty impressive too. He was an ugly ~~~~~~ though!

Is this the builder with the hankey in his backpocket and the big yellow Scuba glasses on as featured on the Wembley '82 VHS?

I don't think so. Gellis was the guitarist on the University of Wisconsin bootleg and probably the Toad's Place video too.

I think he's definitely better than Pat Thrall. I think your list is a bit arse about face.

Paul Crook
Bob Kulick
Dave Gellis

After a bit of thought I think my lead guitarists list goes something like this:

Paul Crook
Bob Kulick
Dave Gellis
Bruce Kulick
Pat Thrall
Mark Doyle
Davey Johnstone
Damon La Scot

Indeed that was ~~~~ing awesome. Thanks Wario. I have seen that ages ago, just never paid attention to the guitarist probably. I think I probably thought it was a very young Pat Thrall (who I still think is one of the best guitarists Meat has had). They've all been pretty awesome though. Good stuff YT is now allowing 10+ min videos.

Default Dave Gellis

Dave was in the NLE from around mid 1989 to 1992 just before things geared up for the Bat 2 release. He replaced Pat Thrall when he went to replace Steve Howe in Asia. Pat came back to the NLE after his return from Asia. So he had a decent run during that era of great performances. A very underestimated guitarist in my view and a thoroughly nice bloke

And the 'the builder with the hanky in his backpocket and the big yellow Scuba glasses on as featured on the Wembley '82 VHS' is Steve Hunter - a guitar legend who replaced Davey Johnstone on the Dead Ringer tour

As to underrated guitarists I would highlight Mark Doyle and Alan Merrill - neither are showboaters but both very good guitarists and all round talents
