It's false, this story originated in an interview the Guardian Arts section, in true Guardian style it was a typo, and referred to Meat's time shortly after leaving high school when (not knowing what he wnated to do with his life) he spent 18 months as a vegetable. A cauliflower to be precise.

Yes it was true but it is a bit of a stretch of the imaginagtion to refer to Meat as a 'Boy' and Bat out of Hell OAP doesn't have the same ring to it!
