I'm sure I won't make friends with this statement but I agree with LP. I think Meat's vocals were stronger in the 1990s. I like the current sound of his voice but he has adopted a style of singing that doesn't do it justice, in my opinion. If he did the National Anthem now it probably would sound good, but not as impressive as it did back then, I assume.

He's 62 nearly 63, so lets be realistic here his voice isn't going to be near as strong as it was 20 years ago. He's been singing like an opera singer for nearly 40 years, it's just not possible to hold that power.
Would he be able to sing the National Anthem nowadays the answer is of course, but would it sound as good as it was in 1994? Not possible in my opinion.

Considering the contradictory info he has provided regarding his year of birth, I'm not sure about that.

Well, he'll be "sexty-???" until he's seventy...then he'll have to come up with something for that decade. Sexenty doesn't roll off the tongue as easy .

I actually like all the opinions that say Meat can't do this National Anthem thing, because it may give Meat an inspiration to prove some people wrong.

Good one. Could be taken as one decade closer to getting into heaven, however I'm going to think Heavenly for Heaventy.

I'm not a vocal coach but I have ears and I know what I've heard in recent years and I know what I heard in the 1990s. Anybody who claims that there hasn't been a change in Meat Loaf's vocals obviously hasn't been to any concerts before the turn of the century.

the vocal coach thing was not directed at you, ive been at 10 concerts and december will be my 11th, and i have always enjoyed the shows. people get older, so do voices, but i have no doubt Meat could sing the USA anthem right now. he sings 12 minute live songs every second night on tour? HCTB are some of the best vocals hes ever done on an album.

If Meat did the National Anthem again, would it be different: YES

Would it probably be great: YES

Change yes absolutely. I just got done watching Aretha Franklin's National Anthems 10 years ago and at the Inauguration of Obama. Change even for females. She can do it. Why not Meat?

I wouldn't be saying some of his best vocals were done on HCTB. To be fair with the advances in music technology it makes a lot of artists sound better than they actually are, on an album and even live.

There is no one doubting he can sing the American National Anthem now, but we are debating if he could do it as good as he did in 1994!!! With the changes in his voice it would be a lot harder, and in my opinion it's just not possible.

In my view Meat might feel that having nailed it so perfectly it was one of those special, not to be repeated events.

However, he is the best judge of whether or not he would sing it again in public. (I recall he said that the range it demands made it a frequent choice for his warming up at one time).

I do think he's done some of his best vocals for many years on HCTB. He says they have not been engineered on the album. I believe him. I've heard his vocals live and they were stunning. It's such an honour to sing his National Anthem that imo if he were to choose to perform it again it might be different, but he would do it full justice.

It really says something about a performer when he can stir the hearts of people not from the US when singing that so beautifully. The hairs on my neck went up. Talk about chills! It was like the first time I heard "Running Away From Me"!! That gave me palpatations as well though lol
