Statistically speaking 99.9% on Non Statisticians believe it is 99.999% bollox.

No offence, but Dorset is probably one of the most boring counties in England, crime might be down but I wouldn't be surprised if suicide wasn't up.

But seriously, you're not going to use Dorset as the litmus test on what's happening with the rest of Britain are you?

Everything I've seen indicates that crime figures are down, unfortunately sensationalised reporting in the press is on the increase, so it seems as if there's more crime than there was 10 years ago because we hear about it more.

I work under the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership in a borough near /part of Manchester. I haven't got precise figures to hand right now, but here most crimes have reduced too. Again no figures but I was lead to believe this was the case all over.

Of course people have got to report crimes for them to be recorded, but I'm guessing that's why the stats use 'Serious' crime rather than crime in general. There is probably a reduction in people reporting lower level crime though, due to a perception the Police can't/won't do anything and this maybe affects people's perceptions of crime and safety.

Sorry for multi-posting. I can't multi-quote on my phone.

If that's what he does to his favourite hamster, I'd hate to know what he'd do to his un-favourite hamster!

Oh, and being drunk should not exempt him from any form of punishment!

Indeed. If anything his punishment should be worse then imo.

To be totally honest, I have no problem with the guy if he killed it humanely then ate it. In Peru they eat guinea pigs, in Tonga (and other countries) they eat dogs, China they eat cats and I've killed and cooked rabbit a few times.

But as its been mentioned torturing and killing animals just for fun is a sign of of someone potentially being psychotic and capable of much more serious crimes.

Really pisses me off when people think because they're pissed they believe it makes it more acceptable, it wasn't their fault etc etc. I'm with Andrew, should cost them more!

Torturing a harmless animal is sick and people should be locked up for it. Read this story, it's horrific and makes me sooooo angry. One of the worst cases of animal cruelty I've read in a long time.
