Thanks for the audio link MB, and for the pics link, Jennifer. I absolutely can't believe that the idiot commentators talked over the motorcycle guitar solo.

Right before CHSIB, the commentator says "there's been lots of criticism of Meat Loaf being here..." Why? Is it because he's an American? I can't imagine why someone would criticize the choice to have him there.

I about fell of my chair when the announcer said that Patti was Kelly Clarkson! Kelly should BE so lucky to look as good as Patti!

They may have said that there was criticism about Meat being here simply because ages ago right at the beginning when it was just rumoured that Meat would be coming (when fans like me jumped to our feet and thought all our Christmasses had come at once) a bunch of no-brain journalists started crapping on about why we need to get out past their best (BAH!!!! - and some weren't this restrained - dumbasses ) AMERICANS out to promote the Grand Final. It has nothing to do with it actually being Meat Loaf - it happens every year. Perhaps this year was a little worse for it though because last year the NRL hyped that Billy Idol was gonna sing and then just blew it and his roadies stuffed up and the sound and mics and stuff didn't work and he never did perform...

The answer to all this of course is that we don't need to get Meat out to promote the game and that maybe, just maybe, he was brought out because he's fecking awesome and would ROCK! at the Grand Final. But hey, what would I know .

Of course, they never said anythign about criticism on the tele... but they wouldn't would they. Not that they bloody well played much of his stuff either.

Thanks, guys!

And thank you, Bohemian, for explaining that odd comment the radio announcer made. I had no idea what in the world he was talking about--what criticism???

Now, I understand! Newsmen are always looking to stir up trouble, aren't they? Especially when they can bring out peoples' patriotism, love of country, 'who needs the rest of the world' attitude!!

Yep!! Agree, entirely!! Glad nothing was mentioned on the TV. Sounded like they were in enough trouble as it was!!

Thanks for explanation!!

Love,

Just listened to the clip from the rugby - it was awesome!!! :P Really disappointed they didn't show it on any of the UK sports channels now. Also a shame that those commentators didn't have a clue what was going on! "Patti Russo - a late replacement for Kelly Clarkson."

Yes, well, imo, that's the fault of whomever it is doing the promotional work for Meat. They are the ones that should be sure announcers, etc, have the facts straight.

You really can't blame any one person in particular, things get miscommunicated in events like this a great deal. Take, for instance, a concert; during the 96 tour, personnel told a few fans cameras were allowed as long as they were without flash, but no one could ever get them into the venue, and this was told to personnel who declared that all inside security was always told they were allowed, but thing is no one was relaying it to OUTSIDE security. I saw the conversation, so i do know it took place. But my point is, there are so many hands involved with getting a show, event, etc. together that sometimes the lines of communication dont make it all the way around to all that need to hear it.

Granted, its not much of an excuse, and i thought it was rather bad they got Patti's name wrong and then tried to twist it around that they werent wrong but she was 'a last minute replacement,' but hey things happen I guess! At least the performance sounded wonderful, the sound system didnt seem to cut out, and Meat and the band got more exposure (from the sounds of the posts, mostly via the radio broadcast rather then Channel 9, but again at least there was something!). Alright, enough from me! Take care!

Very true Jen although as people (thankfully) seem to manage to overcome these problems in the case of, for eg, air traffic control and nuclear power generation, it can be done .. just a shame not everyone puts the same effort into getting things right that these people do .. it must irritate the hell out of Meat who says his interest is in making things work. It's about pride and responsibility isn't it? Being professional in what one does. I bet you put effort into getting things right .. your beautiful photos bear witness to that :) We triple check everything we put on our site. And I think it behoves interviewers and presenters to double check their facts .. although sadly that level of professionalism seems to escape many these days

Default Channel 9 Sport Email

Hi All

I'm sorry I had not put this email address up before this, but well to tell the truth I was thinking i had.

The email for Channel 9 Sport Dept is wwos@nine.com.au and the person the emailshould be marked Att: Mr Gary Fenton. Maybe if they get more email they may not do samething like that again.

I hope that helps any of you that have not been able to get the address already.

Where I share your view of getting the job done properly, I find your comparison of getting a name correct with air traffic control and nuclear power generation just a wee bit over the top... :-) ...

And I stand by my critisism of Meat's promotional department, if you will. Albeit Mercury, Sanctuary or 10th St..imo.. it's been rather lax from the git-go.

Also remember that these were sports sporcommentators, not Rock pundits. They knew that Meat Loaf and Kelly Clarkson were performing before (in their eyes) the big event so they probably put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5.

If 2 rugby players were expected before a rock concert but another one turned up, it's quite likely that rock pundits wouldn't be able to tell the difference either.

But, as Tink said, it would be nice if "management" had let everyone know that Meat Loaf will be singing two songs and the second will be a duet with Patti Russo.

Perhaps an extreme eg :) .. but my point was that when we believe it's important we can communicate, can get things right .. so it's possible .. as I used to say to my British Rail courses when they wailed "But we could never get the trains to run on time; you'll never achieve zero defects. 90% is tough enough" .. if you don't aim to you certainly won't .. and ask yourself, if you took your child into the emergency room, would you hope they were aiming for zero defects, however impossible that seems .. and if not, how do you make sure you're not one of the 10% ..

And of course they are still not getting the trains to run on time!! .. :) They often say to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail .. well to prepare to fail is to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy!!
