Only seen BAAB so far and my only criticism was Meat's flat hair at the beginning of the performance, so that's pretty good going!

Decent performances, though I found BAAB to be quite messy (vocal-wise).

I thought Meat did very well considoring it was very late at night, it was a big show broadcast to a heck of alot of people, and it was the new year, so he might have been a bit nervous.

I thought it was an awesome performance, thought his voice sounded really good throughout, absolutely loved BAAB, although I didn't like the way they shortened the songs.

Well done Meat.

Sorry to rain on your fireworks here robgomm, but the Hollywood elements of this show (i.e. the "live" music part) was pre-recorded back in mid-December ...

What do you want to say?
Meat's voice doesn't live?

No I'm not saying that Meat's voice wasn't live ...

Just that the band performances from the show that was broadcast on New years Eve was actually recorded (taped, filmed etc) in LA in Mid-December. Or, to put it another way, Meat and the band weren't in the TV studio on New Years Eve.

yeah, i dunno why they havent cottoned on to doing that over here, They've been doing that in the US for years from what i gather they might get better guests on our new years eve shows if they did that here instead of the desperate almost-celeb who has nothing better to do on New Years Eve just my thoughts tho

Oh right I see. That's daft though, why make out he's there when he isn't? So it was recorded earlier in decmber for the new years eve show? That is daft.

Yeah you see the stuff from Times Square and all that live....but performances by artists and interviews etc are recorded earlier...the audience are asked to 'pretend' that it's New Years Eve.
It does sound daft but it allows them to book bigger 'stars' who may not want to work on New Years Eve, also they may not be as expensive (i can charge about 3 times as much my normal rate on that night so i wouldn't like to guess how much a big artist could charge )

I'd also imagine that given it's New Year's Eve and everything revolving around the turn of midnight, live TV is too risky in terms of things going wrong and running late...

No more daft than pretending that Santa Claus dropped through your chimney on Christmas eve and brought all those presents under the tree...

Nobody pretends that he is there...everybody in America knows that parts of the show are pre-recorded...

I didn't say Santa doesn't exist...I just said he is somewhat pre-recorded...considering the fact that some of the presents under that tree have been there for a while...

Yes, but presents from Aunty Audrey don't count as they're usually hand knitted socks.

Anyway, to drag this back towards the thing that has a hazlenut in every bite ... it makes economic and technical sense to prerecord these "live" elements of the shows these days. Costs of not only perfromers but all the technical TV crew for an additional live broadcast are high enough as it is without paying the premium that are required to get people to work on New Years Eve, add that into the extra technical nightmare of two live satellite feeds from two different broadcast locations, and then factor in the fact that prerecorded segments have the opportunity to have a number of takes, thereby allowing the performers to nail the performance and you have a somewhat overwhleming argument as to why the segments should be prerecorded.

There is something else to consider here...that people outside of America may not know...

Most people of the crew are union...which means...they get paid double for working on New Year's Eve which runs into a New Year's day which is a legal federal holiday and requires by the union double pay...

Considering how many people are involved in the production...it can become pretty impossible to produce this type of the show live...
