Zombieland and I'm not fond of either Woody Harrelson nor Bill Murray (I don't get him at all for, funny ?) but they BOTH made me laugh. In fact, I enjoyed the whole film and concept. I'm trying to talk my husband into watching it so I can see it again !

I came across the film Mr. Fox this morning and stopped watching as I want to see it from start to finish. I hope it is on On Demand. I know what IS on On Demand though. Alice In Wonderland starring the deppie one !!! YAY FOR ME ! Now that baseball is over and all that is on telly today is college football, popcorn will be popped and AIW watched !!! ...

No, I agree. First 2 are awesome, Goldfinger is very good, Thunderball is boring, You Only Live Twice is kinda fun but Connery phones it in. Diamonds Are Forever is the worst film of them all. So cheap and connery looks so uncomfortable with the humour, and very old in places too.

I've also noticed that the proportion of time Connery is on screen throughout the whole film seems less than that of his successors, if that makes sense.

I do agree that From Russia With Love is a brilliant film.

The only James Bond film I've ever seen is Goldfinger and that was at the theater when it first came out and probably only because I filled with the madness of everything British thanks to the four loverly lads from Liverpool ... lol ... I'm not fond of spy films, though I was quite fond of the tv show The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I know ... lol ... a silly bit of fluff in retrospect. Maybe it's because spy films make me think too much and I get a bit lost following who's who and doing what to whom ... lol ...

Anyroad, I saw a half minute of Avatar this morning. I quick turned it off thinking I may want to see it from beginning to end. Now, do I want to do that ? Anyone ? I don't think my family will like it. The half minute I saw was a bit... lol ... WORDY.. for a couple people who watch all Die Hards, Lethal Weapons and that one with Charles Bronson there was a series of that I can't think the title of right now. So... lol ... I'm no brainiac, but will I enjoy it, ya think ?

Speaking of time on screen, I read or heard somewhere that, oh awful, I can't think this morning, the actor who played Hannibal the Cannibal, he was only on screen for either 11 or 14 minutes during Silence of the Lambs ... HOPKINS... lol ... ANTHONY... there we go. I think I'll check that out. Doesn't it seem he was present forever ? I guess it was just the overwhelming creepiness of his persona that never left, plus the character became so famous particularly in that creepy mask... lol ... similar to Jason in his hockey mask ... lol ...

Most of them don't have a difficult plot to follow! Make the effort to watch From Russia With Love as that is really good. Also Dr No, Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, For Your Eyes Only, Licensed To Kill, Golden Eye and Tomorrow Never Dies. A lot of the Bond films have aged badly though, and some weren't too hot to begin with.

Thanks for your feedback. Sometimes on the On Demand application of our cable system Bond films are available sans ads for a month. Perhaps next time I'll pick out a few you suggested and give them a go. As for Avatar, I think I'll view that sans family. I'm not big on special effects and I seldom go to the theater so I think I'll be okay with tv viewing. Thanks again !

Is he the person who directed Once Upon A Time In Mexico ? I think that film's great and not just for the fact the deppie one is in it. The violence is so over the top crazy to the point you laugh out loud. The gun battle scene in, I don't know if it's the President of Mexico's home or a State building, was just out of this world ! Sliding down bannisters and shooting bad guys so they fly backward through air on impact ! Too wild ! And of course, JD's character's showdown with the two bad guys ! Laughed like hell !

... I watched a film years back called Freaks. It's an old black and white film. I think it was made back in the 30s. Howard Stern, the radio talk jock here in the States, was always talking about it. I saw it was going to be on tv and gave it a view and YIKES... lol ... Creeped me out for days... maybe even to THIS day... lol ... I know I'll never watch it again. Once in the blue I'll see it listed on the tv guide and my stomach kicks in...

As Evil One says, I wouldn't worry about being confused by most James Bond films. Just sit back and enjoy.

I recommend the following:
Sean Connery: dr no, from russia with love.
George Lazenby: ohmss.
Roger Moore: live and let die, the spy who loved me, for your eyes only, octopussy.
Timothy Dalton: living daylights.
Pierce Brosnan: tomorrow never dies, the world is not enough.
Daniel Craig: casino royale.

Quite a long list I know but for me these are the best of the bunch. Most of the others are very good too although to varying degrees. The ones I think are the worst for each actor are

sean: Diamonds Are Forever (cringeworthy)
Roger: View To A Kill (Rog is OLD, budget is nil, inspiration is gone)
Pierce: Die Another Day (omg. Pierce is awesome. Script seems to have been written by 2 teams of people that never met or combined their stories until the last minute. An excellent base story ruined by too many in jokes, Halle Berry, and absolutely appalling cgi tidal wave surfing. No really.)

In terms of Avatar, I watched it at home on 2d blu ray. To be honest I can't really see what the fuss was all about. Don't get me wrong, it is very well crafted, but the story is thin and unoriginal, the effects vary between admittedly stunning to computer gamey, and it all gets a bit soppy before proper war starts. Like they had a ticklist to try to appeal to the broadest consumer base... Soppy disney romance bit for the girls - tick! Guns, explosions, and big things being blown up for the boys - tick! Passable entertainment but nothing more.

I imagine however that this could be the film that imax and 3d were made for due to the amount of layered detail in various scenes.

Lordie ! Thanks much for taking time out to elaborate on the viewing of Bonds and Avatar. I will be giving the Bonds a try and I think my husband will like those. There is one he watches every time it is on, the one with alligators and Bond and a woman hung over them and it seems an impossible escape ? THAT one... lol ...

Avatar I may be watching on my own. My husband surfed onto it the other night and stayed a few minutes and is iffy on it. Maybe if we do it bit by bit, like reading a book or watching a mini-series on tv.

The Ruins

very nasty little independent horror movie... but well worth watching! Leaves you very uneasy though, last time I was that sickened by a movie was Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. - While you'd expect tons of blood and gore from a movie called "TCM", you wouldnt necessarily with a movie called "The Ruins".

Story goes like your typical teenage horror flick: Four american kids to to mexico to check out ancient ruins... but are never come back.

This one is indeed very gory. And I dont mean the type of holy-crap-it's-so-over-the-top,-it's-funny gore, but the type of holy-crap-I-can-actually-believe-that-woman-just-cut-open-her-whole-body gore...

In a strange way I enjoyed it, but I dont have the desire to see it again...

btw Neil, I actually rewatched the Dawn of the Dead remake the other night. Picked it up for 9,99. It's actually a lot more entertaining than I remembered. Only thing that was a bit hard to take was the woman on the bus "accidently" being chainsawed to death (lol... I guess).

Gonna take your advice and watch the original ASAP!

Quantum of Solace on blu ray. Much better than I remembered it being. Yes it needs an occasional pause for breath, a touch more humour, and a little less shaky cam, but other than that I that it was an excellent combination of old and new bond, with terrific performances from craig and dench especially.
