The Bourne Identity (2002)
The Bourne Supremacy (2004) The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) Jason Bourne (2016) The first three are pretty good but the last one is just underwhelming. It seems that Jason Bourne has lost all of his methodic way of acting in the last one, making him some sort of caricature of himself. Anyway, first 3 films 7,5/10 Jason Bourne 6/10 |

Assasins Creed (2016)
If they intended to invent a new genre called 'Boredom' they succeeded. I never played the game but I recognise a poor movie when I see it. 4.5/10 |

Don't Hang Up (2016)
Great idea. A group of teenagers make horrific prank calls. but it soon turns against them. Unfortunately all characters are so unlikable that you don't care for their well being, making it eventually a boring situation. Predictable but nice ending. 5/10 |

Fantastic Beasts and where to find them (2016)
Watched this magical adventure with my wife last night. I like the Harry Potter movies and perhaps that is why I didn't like this movie. It's bittersweet. Almost childish in a way. And half of the cgi was horrible for a movie with this budget. I prefer a good build up for a storyline but this one was really dragging. And even my wife asked after 40 minutes if we could watch something else. We didn't and although the movie got slightly better in the last hour I was glad it was over. 5/10 |

Taken (2009)
Taken 2 (2012) Taken 3 (2014) The three movies remind me of the first 3 Die hard movies. The first one is good. The second one is a much poorer attempt of the first and the third has nothing to do with the first two movies. Die Hard and Die Hard 2 are based on confined spaces (tower building and airplane) Taken 1 and 2 are about kidnapping. Where Die Hard 3 (a rejected Lethal Weapon 3 script) was more of a 'buddy' movie, Taken 3 turns into a Fugitive/US Marshalls movie. Both third installments are out of place. And like the Die Hard series part 2 and 3 are not in the same league as it's original. Taken 7/10 Taken 2 get a 5.5/10 Taken 3 also a 5.5/10 |

Incarnate (2016)
The movie looks good. But the story and screenplay are very poor. It's filled with people saying "whatever you do, don't do..." and thus the other person does exactly that. But what shocked me the most was the fact that after 25 minutes they exactly told us how the sory would end. Not cryptical, not subtile and not to be missed. This shows how poor the screenplay was. 3/10 |

The Pirates Of The Caribbean Quadrilogy (in preparation for the new one)
Curse Of The Black Pearl - 4/5 the original and best. Straightforward witty fun. Dead Man's Chest - 3.5/5 some laugh out loud cartoon fun (bamboo and fruit etc). Remember thinking at the time it was way too complicated. Now though I look at it like some of the modern tv series in terms of how they layer characters ave plots) and it holds up well and makes more sense viewed that way. At World's End - 3/5 Getting a bit too clever for its own good now and much less humour to balance all the plot. On Stranger Tides - 2.5/5 pretty dull but with some ok moments. Feels a bit tired. And they neutered Barbossa. Hoping the new one gets back on track because the first 2 were a load of fun! |

Jason Bourne
Yes it's exactly the same formula all over again and it is a little simpler plot wise but it's executed so well and keeps your interest. Matt Damon is far superior to the charisma less Jeremy Renner. 3.5/5 |

5 short scary tales creating a full circle of horror. Stries didn't always make sense but I enjoyed the movie. 6/10 |

Logan
Absolutely superb film. They finally made the wolverine film they always wanted to. Fresh story, superb acting including the kids, and absolutely gripping from start to finish. I couldn't really think of any way it could be improved, so this gets an ultra rare 5/5 |

In A Valley of violence
When John Travolta is on form he is absolutely magnetic. If he is enjoying a role then it is impossible not to enjoy watching him. Happy to say here he is having a whale of a time and elevates the film every time he is on screen. Not since Hairspray has he been this good, and he is similar to Broken Arrow or Face Off levels of fun Ably driving the plot forward is Ethan Hawke who does a good grizzly haunted dog friendly gun slinger superbly. Hats off to the ladies too and the excellent marshals son. Ok so as always with a western the plot is not massively original. But everything about the film is done well. 4/5 |

Arrival
This seems to be asking the lines of what would happen if the events of the excellent independence day really happened. The answer is people would spend a lot of time staring moodily out of windows and then making astonishing logical leaps. The revelation about how changing how you communicate can alter your perception of time (which actually is a pretty astonishing idea) is thrown away and no one seems to react to it at all. It's well put together I suppose but just all rather dull. 2.5/5 |

Don't breathe (2016)
Meh was ok. Interesting idea and parts. Perhaps not memorable. 7/10. Stephen Lang was more memorable as the baddie from Avatar. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ultimate Edition (2016) Wow. I think this was a huge improvement on an already enjoyable movie. Can understand the fear of movie studios not wanting to put out movies over 3 hours in case of viewer exhaustion. But this really is a better film. The added 30 minutes make sense and are not useless cutaways which one usually gets with extended editions. The Abyss was the only other directors version I enjoyed as much. There was more focus on why Batman and Superman ended up as rivals and how Lex Luther was puppeteering the situations. Credit to the writers for actually writing something better than what most people ended up seeing at the cinema. It makes the few added minutes of Han Solo and Boba Fett blabbering about nonsense in Star Wars look like trash. The ultimate edition of BvS adds story, backdrop and heart. Whereas the original I would rate a 7/10 the Ultimate version probably gets an 8,5 out of 10 I'd say. If you liked the original it's definitely worth seeing. Good value at £7 for the Blu Ray at Asda. Enjoyed it much more in my own cinema. Last edited by AndrewG; 02 Apr 2017 at 04:38. |
