Ok, here we go.......................

Check out the Twitter when it's up, Meat gets out of the car, everyone heads for the building but Meat just heads to us and todays Tweet is born lol.

We all head upstairs to find free beer and canopes...when in Rome so we tucked in. then we took our FRONT ROW seats and Meat walked in.

There was a big picture of the album cover, first time Meat had had this prop so he explained the three different styles, Impressionist, Fantasy Art and Realism. On to the bat, Meat explained that he'd seen it on the bottom of columns on a church in Portugal when he was there a couple of years ago and had taken a picture, said he'd let us figure out what was around it's neck. The woman in the black dress is actually a model who'd sat for photo's, the drawing was made from a picture.

Meat continued to talk about the making of the album which he again said was the most important one of his life. Mentioned how Rob had let him run with it, see what works. At one point Meat and Rob sat down and Rob had said out of the 23 songs they had they had 3 to use, the rest suck so in came a team of songwriters. Meat had told Rob that the album was gonna be based on the soldier's life flashing ahead of him but they didn't tell the songwriters, Meat didn't want them stating the obvious like some bland musical. In the album there's only one woman described and a hooker. The album opens with an injured soldier on in some war laying on the ground looking around him and seeing his best friend laying there, he knows he should get up but he can't, he trys to crawl to get help but again he can't. His life flashing ahead of him is his way of staying alive but this doesn't have a Hollywood ending.

Meat then says about the album "You think you know what's in it....but you don't"....he was right.

Track one opens with an orchestra, and an anvil, depicting the sounds of battle and this was where all my good intentions of taking notes and trying to give you all a good review failed miserably so you're getting my thoughts from now on.

Loud, feckin loud, this album rocks and will grab you by the balls from the word go. Where the Monster is Loose tried to go this one goes there, back and halfway round the block again and in the process takes you on a wild ride through Meat's imagination. There is a rawness to Meats voice on the album that backs up what he said about the lack of mixing on his singing during recording and it's excellent, I loved the sound, sounds better than I can remember and you can just picture him singing these songs live. Peace On Earth just rocks into Living On The Outside then Los Angeloser, I'm still (IMO) not convinced this is the single I'd have chosen and if you're looking at this as a benchmark of what the album is like you're way off. If I Can't Have You (duet with Kara Diogardi and featuring Hugh Laurie) brings the tempo back up and by now I'd completely stopped taking notes as I was just carried away with the whole thing. Love Is Not Real then Like A Rose, this one had us bouncing, just think Beastie boys meets Metallica and you're half way there lol. Song Of Madness has guitar work like you've never heard, hats off to Steve Vai as this is loud!!! Did You Ever Love Somebody then California Isn't Big Enough, this one had us all looking around at each other, at which point I found out that Meat had sat right behind us and was awaiting our response to this song with a cheshire cat grin all over his face which was matching ours, I won't give the game away but trust me, you weren't expecting those lyrics and Meat....please do keep it in your pants lol. Running Away From Me then Lets Be In Love (featuring Patti) then for me my fav, was waiting for this since behind the music was on, If It Rains. You may be the same or not but usually one song from an album grabs me and holds me til I've heard the album a few times and this was it, it really suits Meats voice and the power was amazing. Elvis In Vegas was last but in no way least, one again I need to listen to a few times as I think the lyrics will mean a lot more when you get to relisten.

Note to John Miceli, there must've been many a night you went home knackered, drumming on this album is incredible!!!!!!!

Meat had said a new sound/direction and he wasn't joking, I'm sure this album will not be to all fans taste and arguements will ensue but on first listen it blew me away. When you hear Meat talk about this album and the whole project it's easy to see his genuine love and enthusiasm for what he's created, operatic it ain't and as Meat said "It'll rock your socks off".

Great review!
You explained the feeling of the album way better than I did And whops, I thought "If I can´t have you" was a duet with Pearl. I guess I dont know her voice that well since I couldn´t hear that it wasn´t her..sorry
