On behalf of Nick:

"What is there to say?
The music was life changing, and those moments and albums - they're preserved in time forever.
We lit a candle."

sb. city sb. city A rock legend is dead: American musician Meat Loaf died last week at the age of 74. He is mourned by rock fans all over the world - also in Stade. There, a very special "Edelfan" mourns his death: Kai Holm. The man from Stade, whom many readers of the WECHENBLATT report know as SPD faction leader in the Stade Council and as chairman of the general works council of the Elbe Kliniken, is a rock music enthusiast from the bottom of his heart. He was lucky enough to meet the cult bard in person. After a concert in 2003, Holm took pictures with Meat Loaf (real name Marvin Lee Aday).

Of course, Holm also has the relevant albums by Meat Loaf in his extensive record collection, which includes several thousand copies. The US rocker's best-known song, the world hit "I'd Do Anything For Love", must have echoed through Holm's apartment several times. "At the end of the 1970s, Meat Loaf was known as the Caruso of rock," remembers Holm, who also worked as an honorary music critic for WOCHENBLATT for a few years.
At the time, Holm was impressed that Meat Loaf had succeeded completely against the trend in the charts in the punk era with "bombastic rock dramas by his congenial songwriter Jim Steinmann". "That, paired with Meat Loaf's four-octave voice full of pathos and passion, also established my personal entry into the music world in the 70s," says Holm.

The man from Stader continued to follow Meat Loaf's career, including the personal and artistic low points in the eighties, before the team came back like a phoenix from the ashes in 1993 with "Bat Out Of Hell II" and delivered a new mega success. Solid follow-up albums and sold-out tours kept Meat Loaf in business until 2010, when Holm said he was increasingly plagued by illness. He used the forced breaks for his hobby: acting in small television roles.

He knows from his own experience: "Meat Loaf was also a real talented actor on the music stage. Anyone who has ever experienced the 30-minute song 'Paradise By The Dashboard Light' live knows what I'm talking about," says Holm. "I was able to get to know Meat Loaf personally for a few minutes and I remember a friendly person who was devoted to his counterpart, but with rough edges."

At the end of every concert, he always asked: "Never stop rockin'!" "That's exactly it," says Holm: "I and the music world will miss you."

I still can't believe this devastating news. It all seems so sudden considering how well he looked and sounded on the Huckabee show so recently. We know Meat will live on through his music and will be rocking with Jim somewhere.

"On behalf of" seems to imply he can't speak for himself right now. Is that the case? (As this is irrelevant to the topic of the thread, please feel free to message me privately with any response.)

I haven't been here much either, I've been good but sad about Meat's passing.
An 8 year old me in 1993 would be enthralled by the music video for I'd Do Anything For Love and I would ask for my 1st CD ever that year for my 9th birthday which would be Bat Out Of Hell II (While listening to my dad's copy of Bat Out Of Hell) and fell in love with all of the songs, also would get Welcome To The Neighborhood.

A few years later I would fall out of listening to Meat, would get into stuff like Metallica during my teenager years but then in my 20s (mid 2000s) I went back and played Bat II and it held up great, and Bat Out Of Hell especially then I delved deep not into just Meat Load but Jim Steinman as well and have been in my rotation ever since.
The past year has been hard with Jim's passing and now Meat Loaf's but the music sure as hell will live on forever, and am appreciative of what they gave us, as well as the community of fans here and other places.

Don't know if anyone noticed this but there are several videos on YouTube with 100s of thousands of views of supposedly Meat Loaf's "final moments", which was a pre surgery video he did on Facebook in 2018, so almost 4 years old: https://www.facebook.com/MeatLoaf/vi...57066592202646

As far as I understand from the broader picture Meat had several surgeries and was doing a hell of a lot better last year as you can see on the Mike Huckabee show so this is very misleading.

Quite disturbing these videos are getting so many views and people believe them. I saw one at 1.2 million views.

So ironic how things have come full circle on YouTube.

Over a decade ago I couldn't post some Meat Loaf tribute videos as they got striked by random publishing houses (not Steinman's official related ones), even though they were covers. So cover music is often a no no even though there is no financial gain for the uploader due to content match.

But (re)posting fake videos out of context about his death is absolutely fine with YouTube and the posters can make money.

As we will all cope with Meat Loaf's death in time I guess the comforting factor is that Meat Loaf's life will probably be celebrated more over time and all the videos the likes of Ad and Wario post will keep gaining more views to combat this reactionary nonsense out of context clickbait stuff.

Almost a week later, still very sad and shocked.

Any news about the funeral? When, where, how?
Maybe we can light a candle during it.

This is my anger
This is my shame
These are my insecurities, that I can't explain
This is my fortress, crumbling 'round my feet
Take a good look, baby: this is all of me

It saddens me to think that I cannot turn back the hands of time...

Default Last performance december 2021

Probably his last live performance on stage, december 2021. Starting with “I’m back”.

He’s looking happy and energetic, but oh so fragile as well when he moves.

But man, can’t still believe he left us so suddenly. So sad.

It was only by chance that I saw the Huckabee set on Youtube and saved it as an MP3. The last time of hearing Meat sing live and it was very good. I will always have two main memories. The first was meeting Meet at the Royal Albert Hall in 2006. It was via Private Messages on this Forum that Meat invited me to that show, and met me back stage after the show. It was an amazing show...but he, well, he was just a normal guy, very friendly, very keen to know that I had enjoyed the show and got the tickets easily (up until getting them I though it was a scam!) The second was messaging Meat about the Newmarket show of 2013, where I suggested some set list, and it was the set list, almost, that he did. I find the 'Covid' death theory a sign of the times. I think it is completely right to keep the cause of death private, if that is the families wish. In any case, we all know there is a big difference between dying 'with' or 'from' 'Covid'. I met him late in his life, but early in mine. He had a great life, it is wonderful to have been experienced his music and performances.
