I sometimes think the debate over women referees causes more controversy than the debate over women priests!

You presume I'm talking about myself, which I'm not. Yorkshire has often been referred to as 'Gods own County' ask anyone from Yorkshire and they'll probably agree And if God was from Yorkshire then he'd probably be an Huddersfield Town supporter because they're the best team in Yorkshire.

Pascal's Wager. Bound to turn up sooner or later. Meh.

If there's a god, and on the hypothetical judgement day he asks why I didn't believe in it, I'd like to blatantly rip off Bertrand Russell: "Not enough evidence."

Speaking of Russell, I like the conclusion of his essay "Why I Am Not a Christian":

Quote:
Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear. It is partly the terror of the unknown and partly, as I have said, the wish to feel that you have a kind of elder brother who will stand by you in all your troubles and disputes....A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past or a fettering of the free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men.

Had no internet for a couple of days, could respond to responses to my post but can't be asked.
I don't believe in god for many many reasons, in some ways i respect religious folk and in some ways i shake my head at them, at the end of the day as long as they leave me to believe or not believe what i want then i will do the same with them, it doesn't bother me whether they sit in church on a sunday morning or like me sit and watch match of the day I will never insult their intelligence or question their motives, i just think there are alot worse things you can be in this world than just religious.
hmmm

Basic concept is that there are multiple relgigions, each one believes that non-believers will go to hell.

As you can't belong to more than one religion, everyone is therefore a non bveleiver to someone else and therefore everyone is going to hell regardless of what you believe.

That's a nice soundbite, but not necessarily true.

How, for one, could an all-loving deity send people to a place of eternal punishment?

Well unlike you lot, I get to go to Valhalla

There's a lot to be said for being ex Danish Merchant Navy .

I'll spend eternity in the great dining hall munching on wild boar burgers, drinking beer from a rams horn, giving lots of young ladies haircuts by throwing big axes at them while they're tied to targets, and getting fresh with Brunhillde, queen of the Valkyries .
