One of my most favourite songs along with FCOL, RRDCT and Cry to Heaven. I LOVE Meat singing this song and I've yet to hear anyone perform it like he does. He is the master of these songs.

Just watched Ellens versions and as I listened to her.. I thought to myself ...nice Ellen. Made me smile.

WONDERFUL!

The only other person to sing this song to nearly bring a tear to my eye. She did it again.

Surely in Meat's case it was one of the main reasons for his success; go out there and show confidence in the possibility of all rejection.

If someone comes on stage with a lyric sheet it simply isn't impressive I think. It's closer to karaoke than a performance which allows for connecting to the audience which is something many of us have gotten used to with Steinman's music. If they came on stage at the Eurovision with a lyric sheet they would get nil points. Is that ridicule or reality?
And your right. Lyric sheets were devastating to the performance. But I'm not going to make comments like this one

Are WE SURE this wasn't "LIVE BAND KARAOKE PRESENTS JIM STEINMAN?"

I think there were a few versions that were better than others. I am of the opinion that though some of performers could have been better with some more practice I don't think mocking them is necessary.
Were they better than Meat?
No
I'll give them an E for effort

Does anyone know why the original from Pandora's Box " The future ain't what it used to be" is impossible to find on you tube? I have looked and looked and all I find is Meat's.& Jennifer Jones. I can't believe this as it seems to have been removed on purpose. I have the cd of course but like to listen on you tube.

Could be because of copyright strikes from Virgin. The album is still on Spotify here in the UK. USA too I'm guessing. It's only 10 bucks per month. Worth it I think.

The original is still by far the best I think. Production on Celine Dion's version is excellent but she really shouts on it in my opinion ruining it somewhat. And Meat's version was a bit meh to me. Can take it or leave it.

Celine Dion did a version of 'The Future'?

I like the original one that Pandora's Box did. I also love the Barbershop quartet at the end of the song. It is one of my favorites , that and " Tonight is what it means to be young." Fire Inc did such a good job on that and " Nowhere Fast" .

Disappointing that the song was hacked for no apparent reason other than to make it fit a schedule. Hard to believe that Jim who used to pitch a fit over any edits of his songs would have allowed this....

Sorry when I said hacked I meant in hachet job on the song itself. They cut out verses to make it fit the time allotted to it

I hate to be the Debbie Downer, but I think it would have sounded better with some musical accompaniment, even just a piano. She does have a great voice, though.
