I really like this song a lot and Meat's version is so much better than Boyzone's. Has this song been on any other album than his Best of in 98? How did this / his version of the song chart ? I goggled it and all I can get is Boyzone's song, which did quite well everywhere. It is given a mention on his Best of album on Wiki, but other than that can't find much about how it did on charts.

I believe it was one of the three new songs only on that album only. I remember having that as if it were yesterday. Unsure what its numbers would be.
It's a brilliant lyric and the music paints a picture to a film.. like a post apocalyptic 'Wuthering Heights' And seeing Meat standing there .. it's almost passed sunset and a slighted dusty wind blows his shorter hair. He stands rooted to the ground. |

I love the way Meat did the song. This song ( for me) is a spiritual anthem and the way Meat did it was perfect. I wanted to hear a powerful song b/c for me the song was the trusting/unwavering faith of a child and a cry for justice. No matter what ...I still believe. "You can stand me before the gates of hell, but I wont' back down." ( Tom petty) That is what the song is saying. The children in Whistle really believe the stranger is Jesus and nothing anyone says will change that, " what they believe is true..."
Boyzone was the right group to do the song as it became a worldwide hit, but Meat's version got to the heart of what the song was about. IMHO |
