I have got mixed feelings with this song. Don't know what it is. It is a great song, but on the other side it just isn't.

It is powerfull, great lyrics, beautifull, but the other side is that it is empty, nothing......... Think you will have to listen to this song when you are in a special mood orso.

An amazing song, one of the best songs from this (like most songs from this album). Great lyrics, powerfull music.

Jim Steinman's best song he has ever written! I think one of the best song Jim has ever written

My score: 9

this song is difficult to listen to. It doesn't make me happy. That's why you have to be in a specific mood for it. For example, if you feel f... happy, you're not gonna listen to this song. If you feel very sad: yóu're not gonna listen to this song. So, in one way or the other Tim is right about that.
Anyway, it's still one of the best. 9,5/10.

I think the "Live Around The World" version is very nice. I love the end with deep feeling. Very slow and it's great!

Tim!
You mean it for example "Man And A Woman" is better than "Objects"?

Well......do you want a real discussion about this song???

Man and Woman is a great song. Don't know what is wrong with that song. Objects is a beautifull song, but so different. Man and Woman is a love song. Objects is a song about abuse, dead, friendship and power. Different themes. Also it is written by other writers so.....

Don't think you can compare those 2 with each other.

My opinion is, that "Objects" has one of the greatest lyrics ever. I've already said in the "Sunshine" thread, that Meat is really good in singing sad songs and so it is. When I listen Meat singing this great, powerful ballad, it seems to me, that the things he sings about, were his own experiences. Things, which happened once in his own youth. There are three seperate strokes of fate in this song. The first is the death of his best friend, who died in an accident. Then, the second is about his uncaring father, who is addicted to alcohol and is terrorising his family. And the third stroke of fate is about a girl, his first love. She was the sense of his life, but then, suddenly she disappeared. I've never heard someone before, who can sing the lyrics of a song so deeply, as if it also could be a story of his own life. And Jim has composed such a great melody. If "Objects" were without the lyrics, only the melody, you could also recognize the things the song is about. Even without the lyrics, you can hear the words, the music is whispering to you. You can't compare another song with "Objects In The Rear View Mirror". This song is an unicate!

10+/10

I think Objects isn't so much about the different particular experiences he refers to but rather about being haunted by formative experiences in general, not being able to escape them. Living in the past instead of shaping the future. Those events all happened in the past and should be left there, while you move on, but you can't tear lose of them, they always come back to trouble you.
This is a song in the vein of A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste IMO.

Man And A Woman a beautiful song???? I think it is the WORST song ever been sung by Meat. Objects one of the bests. So I need to agree, you can't compare them.

Great song.
What can I say?The music and lyrics are fantastic.
Meat's voice is great.I love the way that Meat is singing like he's telling a story. Then the music gets faster and Meat's voice gets higher as the memories come flooding back with more urgency.
Just thinking of this song gives me shivers.
9/10 Memorable.

Do not remember where or when, but I do remember that either Meat or Jim told in an interview (I have somewhere on tape) that they didn't want to release the album, because it didn't feel finished. Then Jim did write Objects in the Rear View Mirror and they felt that is was completed.
According to Jim it was the toughest song he had ever written.
Like most of Jim's songs this one is so about deep emotions and make you think about life. Because everyone has had situations like that and has to face life with those memories that sometimes seem to rule how you do and feel.
To me it showed that I don't have to forget the past, but that I may look forward without the pressure of fears from my younger years.

"So many wasted years before my life became my own!"

Thanks Jim for writing and Meat singing those great songs which pulled my through and made me the person who I am today.

Ankie.

I'm not going to rate this song, but this particular one was - long ago - the 'hook' for me to get more into BatII.
Today - I'm here as your host.

Crazy - as time goes by - I do remember discovering the BatII CD in my mailbox (what completely surprised me ) on release day.
But that's a different story. Completely different.

yeah, that is true. Everybody just wantedto release the record except Jim. He insisted to write another song. The release dat was postponed by a year and Virging did not like Bat II no more!! Too much money they spent on it.
Anyway this song is an epic song. It is not autobiographic. Not any song of Meat and/or Jim is autobiographic. This song is about someones live. He looks back in the past. Now he is old(er) and wise and looks back at his youth. That's all. The new songs on Bat II have this themes (Life is a Lemon/ Everything louder).

It is also difficult to get the meaning of this song. But I know the meaning is just in the title.

Think i've to agree with the posts before me. It is a strange song. I don't want to rate it, cause my opion is diferent each time i listen to it. Sometimes it is a great song, but sometimes i just hate the song!! Don't know what it is, maybe it is a bit of the truth that lies in it.
