As been suggested, I think Patti singing was a chance to give Meat a breather and an opportunity for Patti to do a solo song. Especially after the debacle of Bat3 and Patti leaving, which Meat as openly stated he regrets, I feel allowing Patti to do a solo number was a chance for them to make amends.
That aside though, it's nonsense for someone to suggest that Patti needs backup. The occasional glances were probably just harmless enough and too much is being read into it and MEats facial expressions could be a number of things, impressed with Patti's song, singing or just passing wind

it could be a number of possibilities.
