Default ON FILM IN 1978: River Deep and Johnny B. Goode

What show are these from? these look profetionally shot, so I'm guessing a european broadcast. There is a very large timer thing on these but you fase it out as you watch this fascinating material

Wow River deep and Johnny B. Goode....... WOW!!!!!

interesting...

my guess would be the Rockpalast show from Offenbach, Germany, 1978.

I know that those songs were performed, never thought they were recorded/broadcasted though.
Also this seems to be filmed a lot better than said show.....

This is from the Offenbach 1978 show filmed in full length for the Rockpalast broadcast.
But I am not sure if the whole thing was ever aired. This does not look like an aired version because of the timer clock.

The whole thing wasn't aired...only about 3 or 4 songs. The full thing is out there though. I know - I have a copy, but it does have the annoying timer the whole way through.

it looks to me like the picture/sound quality is a lot better than the tv version, am I right or it that just my impression?

I think someone said a few years ago that this show will not be released by the Rockpalast DVD Collection because they are not allowed to from the management. A proper release would be great.
Do more videos from this early period exist (not from that show)?

I wonder why. It is much better than 3 Bats Live and a piece of music history. The Rockpalast DVD series contains some of the best shows ever performed, too bad Meat's concert has not been included yet.

Why I wonder..... Is it something to do with the rights to the songs or something like that? Or is the answer sitting right under my nose ?

I believe they were not allowed to by the management. That's the information given in the other thread on a German board long ago.........

agree with you there!

btw, the intro (!) to paradise alone from this show lasts for 15 minutes with a nearly 5 min drum solo! If this is what Meat & Jim played to the record companies I dont really wonder why they were rejected so many times lol

I dont remember Meat ever mentioning a drummer or guitarist during the record company shows. It was only meat, Jim, Rory, and Karla. Byt that doesn't rule out a 15 minute Piano intro.

On a side note, wonder why River Deep and Johnny B Goode were not B Sides to Paradise and 2/3. Would've probably made those singles better with exclusive content.

Didnt mean specifically this intro, what I meant was that it surely gives a drift of how Jim imagines a proper concert/album to look/sound like. In that way I can imagine they did something similar for the record companies.
