Zina, that was definitely the wisest comment I ever read on this forum. Thanks! Makes it even more interesting as it matches my opinion.

the main thing that worries me about religious institutions are the senseless rules and ceremonies. How should that take me nearer to God? I cant identify with such people. Although I´ve got many friend for who it is a huge help in their life, so I guess everybody got to find his/her own way of praising God.

As should they mine. Why is it that its okay for Christians to state their belief over mine and when I do it I'm disrespecting theirs?

I´ve got many religious and many non religious friends, and as my religion teacher once said, "I´ll respect every way as long as people got a reason and can tell me why they do what they do"

I'm Catholic, my brother is a priest, but I really can't stand going to mass! Except for when they have the fairtrade stalls on once a month and I stock up on the Divine chocolate, it's gorgeous! Divine, even!
If God were me...don't really want to go there! On the other hand, if I were God, first thing I'd do would be to abolish women's monthly problems! |

And if you will excuse me, the angels have band practice and even though they had guitars even before I gave them wings, they need all the practise they can get. |

Religion is a big sack of knackers for people who need to be told how to live their lives because they're too stupid to figure it out for themselves. Do good things, don't do bad things, unless they deserve it.
I can't stand people who feel they have go to Church and knock on my door to try and drag me along. Standing in the middle of a Church makes you no more a better person, than standing in a garage makes you a car. Pud |

If we are all made in God's image, then I see God every time I look into a mirror, or the eyes of my children and grandchildren.
Don't need a fancy church with mindless rituals! |

sorry to spoil your ideas pud, but it aint that easy as you want it to be.
Or maybe I´m just too stupid to understand THAT it is that easy....who knows... I´d like to continue this discussion with you, because I think people who actually think that they´re too bright for religion are the dumbest, but right now I´m too tired for that. I´ll leave you with the image of the eternal nothing after your death now... good night |

If it's an eternal nothing then there won't be any image will there?
Some of the brightest minds on the planet are Atheist, probably because they've figured out how to live their life without being told to from some book. A book that was written over a couple of hundred years by some dodgy blokes wandering around in the desert. Pud |
