Personally I'd take a bunch of happy fans over some moronic RNR hall of fame recognition any day. In the past I've wondered why Meat wasn't in there (along with Steinman as in the songwriter category I may add) and know people have been having debates on this forum for yonks. However the more I think about it, it's really nonsense, especially considering the list they put out this year. It doesn't mean jack shit. Getting in the hall of fame doesn't pay bills or have much influence world wide at all I reckon. Outside of this forum, seeing the film "The Rocker" and hearing bits and pieces about Bruce Springsteen I wouldn't even have known about it, so how does it in God's name help? There is so much music out there, who gives a shit whether or not some stupid rock and roll hall of fame recognises it?
It's the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame of course getting into it is important, and yeah I'm not going back on what I said about it looking good on a CV/Biography just because you are getting all hot and bothered about that comment. I think it's the truth and it's a great accomplishment for an artist, and worth celebrating.

If Meat was to get into the hall of fame tommorrow you'd be delighted. The only reason you hate the HOF now is because Meat is not in there, and he dislikes it.

I was thinking the same thing. There was another rap artist a couple of years ago who got in, can't remember who it was though. And same with Donna Summer, she's pop not rock, same as Madonna was a couple of years ago. Alice Cooper and Bon Jovi definitely deserve to be there. Even though Meat says he doesn't want to be in it, it still pisses me off when they leave him off, it's a matter of principle.

I think Meat has significantly bigger achievements under his belt than being in the HoF, and has established himself as a Rock legend very nicely thank you without any need for it to recognise him.

To me the HoF is the poorer, not Meat, for ignoring him. He's been eligible now for a few years, so I doubt he will be considered by the committee now. They have moved on, left the "rock and roll" concept imo and moved into the general pop music field. Basically the committee members favour performers they represent. The only thing that would shift their approach to Meat now imo is for someone already in the HoF to moninate and vigorously support his induction .. someone like Alice for eg should he be voted in.

Yes. I'd celebrate his induction, but frankly it's a club I no longer rate, so their continued failure to recognise Meat's achievements in the field no longer offends me .. and should they get round to it he might well emulate Groucho Marx and tell them where to put their membership

Fair enough and I do agree with you, but wouldn't it be a great way to top of his career by getting into the HOF? Of course it would.

Winning a Grammy for the best song or best album of the year would probably be a bigger way to top his career I'd say

You could say that, but since he won one already he should move onto the next big thing, which in my opinion is the HOF. It's out of his hands though. Honestly no music lover out there would deny him a place in it.

The next big thing would be oscar for best supporting actor imo or a Brit or another Grammy, or an MTV Video Vanguard Award (strangely enough LL Cool J has that one too ). HOF is wayyy down that list imo, mostly because of the lack of international credit that it has. As Caryl rightly points out these HOF dudes are moving into much more mainstream pop and rap-esque music. Rnb will be next on their list. I bet you anything Beyonce will be inducted before Meat Loaf is. It means nothing. Maybe in the 90s it would have been the perfect time for Meat to have been inducted but now it's just too late anyway so forget about it.

Yeah I agree, I think Meat would prefer to win an Oscar or even an Emmy or Golden Globe for his acting accomplishments, than another Grammy or the HOF.

Thumbs up

I don't know about the ins, outs or politics, but, imo, it would be neat if 'Imself was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Who was it who said he didn't want to belong to a club that accepted him as a member? Groucho Marx?

Yes, Meat confirmed that himself. So the R&R HOF and Meat have a personality conflict. I guess that would lightly sum up the reason why he won't be up for nomination or inducted and maybe why he doesn't want to be.

Edit: added vicki's thought finisher.

the songwriting HOF has neglected Jim Steinman

Those who aren't on the Wall, are the ones on the floor. and those on the floor are often stepped on.

but in Jim and Meat's case:

those who arent on the Wall are hanging on the nipples of fine woman

It was suppose to indicate Meat and Jim are better off regardless

Meat said he doesn't care about the HOF, we don't know how Jim feels. But as Pudding rightfully said above they probaly don't like him, which is stupid and wrong on their part. If a person has achieved enough in his career to warrant inclusion, then he should get in. It shouldn't be about personal preferences or issues, that's what wrong with society these days. In my opinion the question isn't "Will he get in"? it's "When will he get in"? because I think it's inevitable to be honest.
