It depends whether it has something new on it or whether it's the same crap over and over again.

I don't mind compilations if I haven't got any or many albums by a certain artist. But when it comes to artists like Bonnie Tyler and Meat Loaf where there's a tonne of compilation albums out already, I find them annoying, especially if they haven't got anything new on them as Evil said.

Is there an argument that compilations cause companies to stop manufacturing an artists older albums (i.e. Blind Before I Stop, which I believe is out of print at the moment).

Blind Before I Stop is probably out of print because it's crap and no one was buying it

It depends if there is a demand for that older album I guess. With BBIS being less than stellar I imagine that is the reason it is no longer in print. All seven songs from Bat 1 have been featured on numerous compilations and that album is still selling well.

BBIS is not really out of print. You can find it on those compilations.

If you only like certain songs by an artist, then buying the compilation is a good idea in my opinion. I own Guns N Roses, Bruce Springsteen, and Bonnie Tyler's compilation sets, and I listen to them on a regular basis. In 2000/01 the only Meat Loaf album I ever listened to was "The Very Best", and when that got damaged I bought another copy.

Does anyone think the compilation sets are good value for money?

It depends. For the price of the VBO you could buy Bat 1 and Bat 2, therefore actually getting the very best of Meat Loaf.

Are you serious? What about "Not a dry eye", "I'd Lie for you", "Dead Ringer","Modern Girl", "Kiss", "No Matter What", "Midnight", "Is Nothing Scared"? I can't agree with your statement above.

Well once virgin makes a second compilation album. I mean they onw the hudson theate recordings, becon theater recordings, The unknown sources of frying pan and such from LATW, you name it.

They were meat's best record label (in my opinion they got everything right ) and I would love t see them do another compilation....

They gave us Hudson Theater's Louder via amazon last year

Compilations are great if its not named the same over and over (IE: RnR Hero) or has the same stuff over and over.

Im 50/50 cause POTA was in the charts a long time...

I am serious. All the songs you've listed range from good to great, but they are not 'the best.' Plus you can get Dead Ringer on Bat 1 these days anyway.

We are however going off on a tangent and may get a slap from Mr Mouse for ruining his thread. You may enjoy a Mouse slap, but I don't.

I used BBIS as an example (perhaps a bad one).
I'm trying to track down some of the original Roy Orbison albums on CD, and it seems that there are a good few that are just not available.
It makes me wonder if it's like this with other artists.
Compilations abound, but the albums have taken a big back seat, and that's quite sad to see.
If there were not so many compilations, would the original albums still be in print on CD?

I have this problem with Paul Williams.
