Jennifer Hudson should never have been on that song for another reason as far as I'm concerned. It's not a duet!

Exactly. The same goes for IACBTM. I hate to say it but I like the other versions (incl. Celine Dion's
![]() And why that many different duet partners? Unlike Patti, Marion Raven and Jennifer Hudson don't have much to do with Meat Loaf. The whole album did not appear like a Meat Loaf album, more than somebody else's project Meat Loaf just contributed vocals to. |

I looked at the inlay booklet the other day and you know how the artist usually has a couple of paragraphs with their 'thank yous'? Bat III had thank yous from Desmond Child and nothing from Meat. |

while we are on the subject of jen hudson, id like to point out regardless if you like her on the track or not, 2006 was her big year. if Future got single treatment maybe that would've been smart instead of taking risks with the unknown Marion Raven.
Then again that's been brought up before. you may think im crazy with this, but I find Jen's voice very gospel-like and think it works well. I would've loved to hear her and Meat duet on Testify. if any song needs duet treatment, thats a great gospel duet right there. |

That's what bothers me the most about the song. I hear two people scream (Jennifer Hudson more than Meat) but they don't seem to sing with each other. Just power without true emotion. The Future... actually is a fantastic song but the Bat III version is pretty annoying, in my opinion. Jennifer Hudson is an amazing singer but somehow out of place on this one.

That would probably work well. Although I'd rather like to hear Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner on that. Testify deserves to be played live again, by the way. |

That version is, unfortunately, not something that I even want to consider listening to.
Had it been on Bat II it might've worked with just Meat on his own, but the original version and Patti Russo's effort are far superior as far as I'm concerned. |

anyway, dug out the original posters video... and i'll make it very clear i have absolutely no idea what happened in the studio, so the following is nothing more than my possible misguided opinion...
it seems pretty clear to me from the clip, they are not recording anything, just miming to an already completed recording, purely for promotional reasons... hence my lack of awe to the video... ive no idea if both vocalists recorded at the same time in the same studio, or not. what is known (ish), is which organisation put it on the tube, when they did it, and what they called it... and here it is.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdCiZsbrsXQ |

![]() OH and ps, I bothers me no end that whenever I've seen JH anywhere in interview, I've never heard her mention Meat. Maybe she did and I missed it ? Has any one ever heard her mention him ? As a Meat fan, that bothers me. |

This song is a good example of why guest artists rarely work. Just because someone is a great singer does not mean her/his voice will sound great next to Meat's voice. I would love to hear a solo version of this song by Meat or a version with Meat and Patti.

I agree with the gospel thing, and I like the gospel, but for me it could just do with toning down a little. We know Jennifer has a powerful voice but I think in this case less would have been more. In my opinion.

I'm agreeing with the gospel thingy, but for it to work properly then it needs to be just Jennifer, as she does gospel and Meat doesn't. Would love to hear a solo effort from her.

I don't necessarily agree with that. I thought Testify was pretty shit hot. Jennifer Hudson doing the Future solo would probably be similar to the Pandora's Box version, so why try to duplicate excellence? I'd rather hear Patti's version with full instrumentation.

Yes, Meat did a great gospel sound in Testify! He can not only act the ass off a gospel preacher role .. he has a great voice for a gospel type song, and Testify was marvellous.

Apart from Elvis, not many white singers can do gospel justice. And apart from the beginning bit of Testify, I'd say the song is anything but gospel.
