Default Scanner problem - can anyone help ??

My scanner hasn't been used for a while and vertical black lines are now appearing on the scanned image.

The glass is clean. The black lines are not on the hardware.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner software - but to no avail.

Any bright ideas as to how I could solve this problem would be most welcome.

if the glass is clean the problem is either with the part of the scanner that actually does the scanning, in which case you probably need a new one.

or its with the data transfer, check that the cable is plugged in properly both ends with no dust in either end, if that fails try another cable.

however i do feel that it sounds like there is a problem with the part that does the scanning, it sounds like a couple of the sensors that receive the data are not working. do the black lines appear in the same place for each image?

Thanks Keab42.

The connection looks clean and secure. I haven't tried it with another cable though as I don't have a spare one.

The black lines are appearing in the same place every time so that does suggest the problem is with the sensors.

It doesn't sound like something I can fix myself. I'll maybe see if I can find somewhere that will repair it. I don't really want to buy a new scanner as I hardly use it now. I'd be better spending the money on a digital camera.

I had the same problem on my scanner twice. The first time it was still under warrenty, and HP mailed me a completely new scanner. The second time it was out of warrenty so I had someone over to look at it and they suggested that the most economical route would be to purchase a new scanner. I'm now on my 3rd scanner in the last 5 years- I fear they are a bit delicate and unforgiving!
