He definitely is still a handsome fella, and has that twinkle in his eye. I dig it.

This promo sounds different, way different, than Bat 3, HCTB or HIAHB.

He sounds wise, he sounds like he is full of depth and knowledge, and even though he always has been, he acts more like it now. His confidence is there more than ever before.

His interviews like this are going to sell records. Probably more so than performances.

His artistic craziness, eclectic conversation style and rock star appeal is a win IMO. Even from the people who are worried he was 'on something'. It makes him seem interesting in all sorts of ways :)

Talk it up bro. Work the room.

Fact of the matter seems to be, even though I think people's reaction to him being a bit rambly and tired to be pretty disproportionate (no offense to Meat, but he's always had a habit of being rambly in interviews anyway, it's nothing new - think he's mentioned they make him nervous before and after days and days of being asked the same questions anyone would be the same).....it seems to have translated into pre-orders and people remembering how much they love the guy. So in other words a pretty successful promo appearance!

I see all these positive posts and I get it. I just can't help but feel very concerned. I hope I don't have to be but still I am regardless and that feeling is definitely trumping my excitement for the album release and all that goes with that. Perhaps it's none of my business but I am just very concerned. Sorry.

Oh that's ok. There's no reason to be sorry.

I'm concerned too.

At my wedding (4 years ago), my Grandma looked like Meat - just not well - Like she was overwhelmed with life and tired as ~~~~.

Turned out she has an 11cm tumor in her abdomen that she had removed a year and a half later. (not cancer just a big growth)

This year she turned 71 and she looks better than she did 4 years ago, she's happy and healthy and feeling good. She really has recovered a lot from all her ailments and seems younger like how I remember. They take a lot out of you and she has had multiple surgeries, and has had MANY throughout her life.

Oh and I should note that when she didn't look well, she had also recently had surgery on her foot to correct what arthritis had done to it, and a couple years before that, radiation for a tumor (not cancer thank god)

So I think you have every right to be worried Andrew. I think I agree with you - I don't think Meat is in optimal health at this time, even considering his age. And I am glad he is choosing not to tour, and to limit his engagements.

I hope he allows himself to heal and takes the time he needs.

Just hearing his breathing on the radio concerned me.

Reminds me of Lemmy and you can tell when someone is in a bad way and when it is more than just "getting older", although he's not nearly as bad as Lemmy was when I became a fan in early 2015.

Only reason I mentioned my comments about people just "not wanting Meat to get older" is that I think it's partially true - that Meat is just almost a 70 year old, heavy set man who still works very hard and doesn't rest enough.

But yes, Sorry Andrew, you're definitely right, there is more to it than just old age at play here. You just get that gut feeling that they're not in a good way right now, compared to how you remember them.

However, that doesn't mean the end is near, or that he's dying, or anything silly and extreme!

It just means that health and well being are what he needs to make his job for now, and for the near future. He needs to make learning about health and how get healthier his goal. he said he loves learning, and to never stop. If he switched his thinking to that, I'm sure his health would improve a lot. He can make it his "job" to "be the healthiest version of himself he can be", if it is a job and a busy one that takes discipline then it will be right up his alley. It will be accomplishing a personal goal. And then he'd have more energy and faculties to put into future projects instead of running on near empty, as we saw on that video....Just my two cents

He has had multiple surgeries over the last few years - knee operations, multiple back surgeries, tumor removed, etc - and those are just what we have heard of. Surgeries, especially in older people who take longer to heal, can really set them back. I think that really is mostly what we're seeing here. He just needs to stop for awhile and rest, and take care of himself. It should be about him for awhile. Like I said, if he could just make it a job he'd be interested in it. Make your own health your ~~~~ing job! I think if Steinman was worried like that, we should all be. And no, it's not life or death or Meat wouldn't be on the radio or on TV, but it's enough to be concerned for a friend and hope they get what they need to be healthy and happy!!!

I did find it somewhat ironic, amidst the concern here, that he was sat on the couch next to a GP!

There is one big difference to this promo to some recent ones - particularly Bat 3 which had a much bigger promo than HCTB or HIAH. Meat WANTS to promote this album.

This is his and Jim's final defiant statement of everything they have always been - outcasts, off the track, purposely out of time with current musical trends and not about to be put in a box by some record label boss who "knows" what makes good music and good sales.

This is not just an album, not just even the final album...to Meat, I feel, this is THE album, the ONLY album that matters...more than Bat 2 did, more that Bat did. He IS this album, he lives the songs of this album and he's been around long enough now to appreciate what all of that means and how important it is compared to when he recorded Bat as a much younger and more naïve man.

I've sang it's praises from the start because I get the massive theatrical event that this album is (which Meat kind of explained on the One Show when he said he wanted it to be one continuous symphony), and I do get a little bit emotional that the album is about to be a successful swansong, almost as emotional as listening to the last 2 minutes of GATW kick in and realising that this is the last time we are likely to hear ANYTHING that sounds like this again. Definitely bittersweet, but it looks like its going to be something special to go out on and I'm especially pleased that Meat waited for Jim to provide the full album rather than the original plan from a couple of years ago. It had to end with the two of them together again. Sometimes rock and roll dreams do come through.

Just watched it, yes a bit off at the start but he warmed up nicely.

It does bother me that with all the promo nobody thought to do a 30 second video of current footage, don't like the new song over old footage, could have knocked up a vid on an iphone when they were in the studio that would've been better, Meat with the girls would've been cool but what do I know.

Coming to praise Caesar rather than to bury him .. One thing I noticed, as I always do, is when others were having their turn on the couch, was Meat's body language .. turning and leaning forward, listening intently, hands clasped between his knees, and motionless. I've watched him melt into the background motionless so often on stage when someone else is singing or playing their solo, ensuring attention is on them and not him. The sign of a generous actor or performer who fills the stage when it is his turn, and hands all attention to another when they are featured .. never looks away, fidgets, or does anything to draw attention to himself.

And kudos to him for his weight loss which he is proud of and rightly so. He often says he'll never look or be like Mike Jagger, but that smooth unleathery skin looks SO much better to me, and he still looks youthful

I'd just add .. I think Meat takes and manages his health as seriously as he does his performance, and more than most. His huge courage and tenacity are admirable, and he uses them to overcome the obstacles fate has strewn in his path.

A healthier lifestyle often leads to considerable weight loss.
Then, if you haven't seen that person since before the new regime they will often appear more gaunt. Yet, the reality is they have extra vitality, energy and a spring in their step.
Meat's gym work is paying dividends!

I'm not here to bury anyone!!! That's bullshit and really not fair. You know how much I care about Meat, that's just rude. Worrying about his health means I care, I care very much, and I don't think he will be buried any time soon, I think he has had health issues (AS WE ALL KNOW) and he is working hard on fixing them!! So let's just leave it there or I'm going to get really angry.

Anyways.

Meats well being is always a priority and in my thoughts. Of course I have concerns...to not be concerned for someone you care about would not be normal..that doesn't take away from the promo and how much I think he is looking lovely and doing great, as always.

Its great that so many people really care and love Meat.

I'd rather live with the knowledge that he is enjoying his life than that I get to see another show. At the moment I feel it's more than we deserve. Even the memories of all those foregone shows are plentiful for most surely.

At the same time this news coverage will probably help to boost the Braver album sales.

I'd say to those who are going to the signing not to waste your precious little time in asking him when he is going to tour again. There are better questions you can ask I reckon. But I really do hope everyone including Meat enjoys tomorrow.

One of my favourite comments: 'Meat Loaf looked much healthier in 2004'.

Well, no shit, that was 12 years ago. I mean, I looked healthier back then, too

P.S. I'd argue that's closer to a cane than a 'walking stick', which looks incredibly cool. Meat should go all out and get one with a silver skull on the top (or a bat, obviously), and carry it around whether he needs to or not.

Loo roll. I use a stick for hiking when we go on holiday.

Seriously Tom Baker, then 79, came into a Doctor Who convention on a walking stick, I was worried but he was on stage rattling off anecdotes and the room was mesmerised.

The venue was a school, the autograph room was a classroom so we had to snake round the desks whilewe waited, and being in that room waiting for 30-40 minutes was jsut amazing, because although he was talking to each guest as they went through Tom was telling his stories and joking, taking his time and we all loved watching him entertaining every one in his old whimsical way. Everyone was smiling.

It was absolutely magical!!

Indeed that line is absolutely mental.
