Default The Ultimate Pop Star- 21:00 - CH4

Quote:
Paul Whitehouse and Harry Enfield reunite as Smashy and Nicey to run down the definitive list of the 50 biggest-selling artists of all time, based purely on actual sales in the UK Singles Chart from the last 50 years.
Thoughts anyone? Meat going to be in there?

Its not just the 1 single, its all an artists single sales together.

Meats not done too bad in the 'old' days when single sales were much higher.

Bat Out Of Hell - 15 & (8 when released again in 94)
Dead Ringer For Love - 5 (59 when released again in 91)
Midnight At The Lost And Found - 17
Modern Girl - 17
I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - 1
Rock n' Roll Dreams Come Through - 11
I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth) - 2
Not A Dry Eye In The House - 7
Is Nothing Sacred - 15

Have I missed any?

The fact that they are compiling best pop star on the sole basis of records sold is ridiculous.
Although it was quite funny to see one of the talking heads titled as "A Smiths Fan 1984". A statement about our breed that he deemed Wham! the anti-christ and had a dry wit.
It mad me laugh anyway.

I was most surprised that Cliff won. When they got down to number 1 slot I couldn't think of any big stars who hadn't already had a mention except Meat and I had a feeling it wouldn't be him.

You're quite right pud. What would Christmas be without a Cliff song. Mind you the office would be quieter without a toneless rendering of Mistletoe and Wine

I think it's only fair actually, his last release in December was his 103rd, 103rd top 40 hit.
