We did it between us, but I've lost all my photographs, Ellis has lost masses course work etc., It had me in tears I'll tell you. To see all Ellis's work and mine gone forever, you can only back up so much, certainly not every day.
Ah Well!! |

I may be telling you all something that you already know so i'll apologize for that but I was told to have a system restore date put in so if anything like a virus should affect the computer you can revert back to a date when everything was running OK.
Is this try or am I in some computer day-dream??? Please advise me if this is true or a load of crap. Thank you |

However, A virus can reside inactive on your system for some time so even a "safe" restore point may be infected. Also, if it is a Windows System file that is infected (most viruses tend to hide in the \windows\system directory), then a restore will not remove it. System restores are a good idea and worth trying but cna be no substitute for a solid, up-to-date virus checker. Personally I use norton, it's about 20 quid from the PC shops and that includes 12 months worht of updates to protect against new viruses!! |

We do have a virus checker but somehow it missed the virus, and I delete anything I'm suspicious of. As Chris says it can remain dormant, but it makes sense after the fact, all the niggly things that were happening were a prelude to what was to come. |

I'm sorry to hear that you lost all your pics and work on the computer. Thankfully I've never gotten a virus in my computer but I'm really good at downloading corrupt files and crashing my computer

Dottie,
going back to factory settings does mean you did a fresh install from your revovery discs? If so, you are still vulnerable for the blaster worm. Activate the embedded Windows XP firewall, then download all necessary patches by going to windowsupdate.com |

R. Ellis has downloaded the patch from Microsoft, and touch wood everything appears ok now.
I'm deleting all forwarded e mails with previous e mail addresses and attachments even from people I know, just to be on the safe side for the time being anyway. thanks to one lovely lady on here, I am happy again, she saved my sanity, (she knows who she is,) and replaced my photographs for me and I immediately backed them up . |

Well here I am again, yesterday evening computer started acting out some weird functions then froze, would not budge, couldn't even turn it off correctly, had to turn off at plug, then turned back on again after a while.
Nothing would not do a thing, had to use recovery discs again, seems fine now. Had backed all important information and photographs up already. All security patches etc have been installed again., was that a virus or what that did this ![]() I haven't opened any thing suspicious at all, I don't even open 'circular emails' ones that have been around the world 3 million times, and these are from people I know. I have been receiving weird e mails with attachments, something like zxxxwwss in the name, but deleted them straight away, and emptied trash immediately. Is Yahoo vunerable to this sort of thing, as this is the second time in a short few weeks, that I've needed to use the resotre discs to get up and running again. Any adive would be gratefully received. |

I don't know what to tell you Dottie. It sounds like you got something. Are you running a virus scan program? I've been hit this week with quite a few viruses. When I opened my e-mails yesterday, there were 12 e-mails with a virus and 8 more two days before. My anti virus program picked them up immediately. Have you tried doing a free virus scan? On the Symantec site, you can run a free scan and it will tell you if your computer picked anything up. It sounds like you might of picked up a virus or something. Try the free scan and see if it picks up anything.
Good luck, Maria |

My computer is now clean, picked up 4 Blasters and 1 virus beginning with W don't know what that was.
But computer running like new. Chrissybabe, I would suggest you take above advice and run a virus scan to be safe. (I should talk, should have done it at the beginning of the week ![]() |

LOOK OUT THERE'S A VIRUS ABOUT!!!!!
![]() Not sure which one this is:-- purports to be from 23520@www.mlukfc.com, with attachment - deleted straight away. Knew somehow it wasn't a message from the board as I had never seen these figures in the front of the site address. Keep your eyes peeled ![]() ![]() |

Well, yet another virus found it's way onto my puter tonight. Apparently a variant on this Netsky Worm that is going around, and is now being picked apart by some very very dodgy, but nice to know people, that I know
![]() I also have a programme on both systems, ad aware version 6. This can be found by searching on google for Lavasoft.com it's a free d/l and also you can update. It apparently picks up spyware from sites you have visted. |

Beware! ..... More viruses doing the rounds:
One message was supposedly from 'support@symantec.com', believe it or not! The subject was Re: Your virus report. As we hadn't reported anything we knew it was iffy. Another virus had the message 'Virus checked, File clean, install updated definitions' (something like that - deleted immediately, so going from memory). I would advise that you only install updated definitions direct from your virus software website or from within the program itself. |

We've had several iffy emails at work with addresses of people we deal with so aren't opening any attachments unless there is a proper email letter with it. Also had several non delivery reports for emails being sent from an incoming only email address. None of our computers are set to send emails under that address.

I had a whole load of that type of email in my Outlook Express addie but the strangest thing of all was that it was a different name at the beginning of each one, and each email had been bounced from AOL addies. I passed one onto my friend and he sent a malware notice for me yet again. He reckons either someone is playing silly beggars or it's the Netsky Worm Variant.

As I have hotmail, hotmail seems to know what attachments are viruses and right now I'm not opening anything with an attachment. Also my other email account is down while my dad sorts it out, don't know what he's doing.
