For me it was when Storytellers came out.

I was working at the University, and stopped at Best Buy on the way home to pick up the new Weird Al CD at the time (Running With Scissors).

While I was there, I saw the Storytellers CD sitting on the shelf on one of the endcaps.
I had heard of Meat Loaf before, but had never listened to his music ... I was curious, so I picked up the CD. I played it in my car on the way home, and then I couldn't stop listening to it When I saw Meat and Patti sing Paradise on tv, I was hooked. I can still remember yelling at the tv when they went to commercial in the middle of the song After the DVD came out, I used to go home for lunch every day (I only lived 10 minutes from work) just to watch Meat singing Rock 'N Roll Dreams

Unfortunately I didn't go to the Storytellers tour. My first Meat concert was at AC in September 2001, which was also (thanks to Vee) the first time I met Meat. It a great night, something I'll never forget

The same uncle really got me into Meat loaf, as I remember the AFL video and the promo's in the shops. There was this huge Bat 2 - whats the word - the things you see in cinemas advertising films - cardbord cutout?? Anyway, thhis huge cutout was in a record shop and I wanted it so bad, but could not have it, but My uncle bought me Bat 2 on my first ever CD (wich I still have) and tape for his car - but - the memore that sticks in mind the most, My uncle told me that Meat loaf slept in coffins - as we all know, adults tell small lies to kiddies. It made me love Meat more, and be more in awe of him. Im lucky that I didnt have strick parents, as such, because they allowed me to go to see Meat for the Bat 2 tour in Sheffield when I was 8, with my sister - and we got free tickets for the 2nd show coz my Dad won a competition on radio hallam, so I got to see him twice. I always remember being a little frightend when the intro started for the show, all these flashing lights and these wierd noises...scared me to death. Although, I know I was younger, I am still convinced to this day, the show was a hell of a lot louder then what the arena pumps out now. I think the noise police put restrictions on the db level a few years back.

Anyway, thts my early Meat memory.

Sorry for the long post

lol!! My mother told me the same thing that Meat loaf slept in coffins. It's so funny how adults tell children stuff like that. And my dad always told me that he was a wizard lol.

Your dad told you that he was a wizard or Meat was a wizard?

Slept in coffins! LMAO! That would have been cool to believe. I mean why not.

My earliest Meat Loaf memory was when I was 4. Believe it or not I was traumatized by the beginning spoken part to Took The Words by my older siblings. Typical fairytale though, a fear turned into a passion.

The only coffin I remember is in If You Really Want To, and the coffin belonged to the girl, not Meat.

Meat set the coffin on fire using coke as holy water

I'm not quite sure if it was a real coffin or just a big box but it looked coffin like. It's some time ago that I saw the video.

My first introduction was Bat I. In the late seventies, my aunt (who is about 87 now) used to like to buy disco records. She looooves Tom Jones, too, btw. But anyway, for some reason, she bought Bat, and of course didn't like it, so she gave it to my older brother. Somewhere around 1980, my brother went off to boot camp, and I was left with free reign of his record collection, which was quite extensive compared to mine at the time. Anyway, I grabbed Bat because I had heard Two Out of Three on the radio. It was amazing! I spent hours with it, listening and pouring over the liner notes. The rest, as they say, is history.

Oh, and my brother took his records back when he got home, so I had to go buy my own.

Although my Meat Loaf music addiction didn't properly start until the release of Bat 2 and all the hype that came with that I did know about Bat 1 well before that. In the late 80s Paradise was re-released in Holland I believe and it was played at a lot of school discos I went to where it always stood out. My parents had the Bat 1 vinyl and I remember playing it. I also got the Hits out of Hell VHS where Meat's "look out in 1992 for my reunion project with Stienman" message (eventually 93 of course) got me quite excited. So I had really been waiting for Bat 2 for a year or two before it all took flight. AFL was what really inspired me and think that was really the first time I fully "got" how amazing music could be and often is.

My very first Meat Loaf memory was in 1995 at the age of 7 when I saw the "I'd Lie for you" music video in the Top 30 hits on RTÉ. That same christmas I got the tape of "Welcome to the Nieghbourhood" as a present, and I loved all the songs on it most notably "Original Sin".

I was in high school when Bat came out, and it totally blew me away. Everyone in school seemed to have it. I remember going to parties, and Bat was always played. My friend and I went to his concert and both loved it. I had lost touch with her over the years, but caught up with her last year at my 30 year school reunion. I asked her if she still liked Meat Loaf, and she said she did. I hope I'll catch up with her again at Meat's concerts next year.
