Last time I looked, there were no rules like you had to pay to post here.
Indeed Guppie .. and much of the information posted here comes from forum members like yourself who may not belong to the fan club yet who share information freely with everyone

Apologies if Original Sin thought I was responding directly to her (I wasn't). What I'm saying generally (not responding to anyone in particular) is some non-members have come on this site, criticised fans for supporting and defending Meat Loaf and used our forum to do it. Sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

Like many of you I believe in free speech but some of the people posting here seem to have a hidden agenda. The big problem with web posting is many people hide behind a pseudonym - I don't nor did Michael.

Personally I would like to see a hidden "fans only access area" without removing the general forum. I think Meat may have the idea that everyone who posts here is a fan club member - they are not.

It still doesn't take away the concern I have over miscommunication - the original cause of all this. A genuine Meat Loaf fan made an observation, he's written positive reviews and he's entitled to a view on a particular show. He's also a fan club member folks!

As regards Fan Club fees these would be kept lower if more joined (economies of scale you know).

Now come on I've stirred it up what do you say to that? (Let me guess)

I agree it's not fair to blame everything on Michael. there's no reason to blame anyone.

Default Thank you Meat and goodbye

Thank you very much Meat for gracing us with your presence throughout the good times and bad. Don't worry about the spelling - we're only human.

THANK YOU very much for trying to come to NZ. When things are looking down for you in terms of the album in NZ, it really makes me happy to hear that you're still planning to come.

I am looking forward to your new website. Would you be able to give us any idea of when it might be up and running? I check every day to see if it is, so I'll probably find out anyway.

Hey- just so it's clear, guys, I wasn't thinking of anybody in particular when I was talking about 'ways of voicing criticism' I don't blame anybody on this site- if I did, I would say so- but I don't, this is just one of those things....no reason...he's a busy man and he's made a decision, that's cool with me.

Again- it was a general criticism aimed at nobody in particular (I've received some Pm's so I just want to be clear)

Oh Meat, I wish I could have heard you in Trier, wish you didn't let a few people bug you, wish you would still come to Columbus, wish I could hear you, the artist, explain the real "picture" of CHSIB.

Love you no matter what,

Love the albums, love the man, love the concerts. But at the end of the day he made a promise to us while asking for help, and as far as I can see he hasn't kept it.

No-one is free from criticism. I am a 110% fan but this seems to have come at a convenient time bearing in mind that his new site has just opened.

Thank you for qualifying your statement, however I did not think you were necessarily responding directly which is why I had wriiten:-

whilst I'm sure Mike's post was a general observation and just coincidental that it appeared below my post.
I'm not sure about your comments about hiding behind a pseudonym, I chose my nickname here because it means something to me and I chose not to share my real name on an open forum, and would whole heartedly encourage others to do likewise, you only have to read the papers to see why. Those I know or get to know and trust I share my personal information with, and of course this is also supplied with fan club membership. As I have been personally abused through this board and have been called various things for my upport and fanship of the the man this site is dedicated to, I'm personally glad I chose to keep my pseudonym!

To summarise I can make no further comment than I have already done.

My take is make the best of what you have and enjoy the moment.

okay i have read alot of posts and i understand how alot of people feel. now its my turn. i saw meat in concert . i was suppose to see him backstage but it never happened. twenty years i have waited and he never comes out. okay i can understand that . his show for columbus in cancelled . okay getting alittle bit upset . he then comes on these boards and goes off because of some people criticizing him. i can understand him being upset. but life is always going to be like that . no matter what u do there is always going to be someone there to judge you. you look back at what meat has done through life betwen music and movies. we can sit there and pick out bad and good points. no matter what. he then says that he is not comming back to the u.s to redue his concerts that have been cancelled rescheduled . now am i upset , yes. meat wrote a letter to me and i still have it saying that when there is a concert in ohio there will be a meet and greet and i will meet him. now it probably won't happen. i am a die hard fan, but how can i not help myself from getting upset. i know his health has been bad , so why not take some time and rest . your fans will understand. instead he leaves this website , saying we will have to pay to write to him. didn't he say before he wasn't in it for the money. i am totally confused. meat i love you dearly but i think you to rethink about things. instead of running away from the criticism stand up to it and voice out some more. a website like this is like a family we stick together . i hope u come back not only to this , but to the u.s as well. this is just my opinion.

Default Clowns

Hey Meat,

Sorry to read that you will not visit this site any longer. My advice if you do read this is not to give equal value to all opinions you come across from every clown who happens to own a ML CD or who sees a show.

For example I am horrified when I see a small number of people at shows who go to the bar during the concert - I would not want to miss a second and never do. So to me my opinion is worth more than theirs.

And then you have the people who live in internet land and like to cause trouble, because they think it is funny. They spoil it for the majority. All we can do is to try and sideline these sad characters. Ignoring them is probably the only effective action.

Take it easy, Meat.
See you Thursday!!

What??? A Pay-Site???? My god.... how low can you go.

If you can't critism, that is allright, i can't have it also. But that ain't no reason for me to quite with things i do.
We all have our good and bad days, you are also a human.

So, don't see really the point that you are leaving the site. It is a pitty, but if that is how you feel, then that is okay with me.

But a pay-site....

Hope you will be coming to Holland soon ML.
Keep up the good concerts and making great records.

If it is a subscription site Tim it makes a lot of sense to me. A subscription fan club site means at least that abusive people who are kicked off cannot sneak back under a different name and email address.

A password protected site means that your home on the internet at least has a front door to keep vandals out! And it give you some control over how your site is used .. many websites displaying photographs use this. A number of fan clubs offer a members area in this way .. why not apply that to the whole site?

Let's not judge before we see what it means. I've never objected to paying fan club membership fees. If this is a way of ensuring that those people who can interact on the site do so because they are fans and respect the owner and the owner's feelings, I'm all for it.

And to anyone about to suggest that this makes me a sycophantic, obsessed arse kisser .. let me pre-empt you by saying I don't give a Rhet Butler

Thanks for explaining the pay-site concept, CarylB !! I've been trying to come up with a simple way to explain it and you did it for me.

Too many have expressed frustration, dissapproval, and anger even over the idea, but as you have said, let's wait and see. I for one, have held off "joining" any particular site since I enjoy interacting with all of you on the OIFC and here. I'm sure that once you (and I mean that in the general sense) pay for additional access to a site, it becomes more likely that one would "lurk" there rather than another site.

I personally feel that Meat's comment regarding "paying to talk to him" was not to be taken literally, but was more of a reaction to those who have angered him. Yes. the site may require a membership fee, but that only means that it will be less likely that the occasional "trouble-maker" will appear to stir things up.

Just my two cents.

Hi Mariella, yes you probably do remember me. No, I am going to Newcastle and Manchester but on both dates there is no m&g available. To be honest I feel like a bit of a sucker. Wonder if we'll get begging letters for Man of Steel.

Of course, I will be buying both the single and DVD that come out on the same day.

Hi!! Just want to add my moan.

At the end of the day people are always going to critise no matter who you are, what you do, or where you come from, and it's not easy to take critisim, I am the worst person in the world to take critisim, I get upset when I think I'm not making people happy, but at the end of the day it's the people who pay to see Meat's concerts, be in the fan club, buy the records and DVD's and the people who LOVE Meat Loaf that matter, not those that try to 'tear you down' ....

There are always jealous people there who don't understand what a fantastic entertainer Meat Loaf is, he not only sings, but he acts, he performs, he entertains .... he puts 100% in and the fans give 100% back.

It's a shame that Meat feels he has to leave this forum because of what he thinks people are saying .... it's a shame that he can't stay and listen to those who absolutely love and worship him, because at the end of the day it is the majority on the site that do just that.

I can't afford to go on to a pay-site to talk to Meat, I haven't got the money, I've spent my money on buying albums, joining the fan club, buying t-shirts, concert tickets ....... I would love to join Meat on his new site when that's up and running, no doubt it would probably be fantastic, but maybe I'm not enough of a fan to go there .....

I love Meat, I've been a fan for most of my life, I will always listen to his music, I will always cry at his concerts because he's filled me full of happiness, I will always go on and on about him to my friends in work, I will always be there to defend him ...... and that's all I want to say.

Sorry if I've gone on, I've probably not made a lot of sense, but hey, nothing in life ever does!!

I'll see you on the 13th November in Manchester!!

I have to admit the "pay site" comment made me sit back and draw a deep breath. I think it was unfortunate to have come out the way it did admist so much hurt and frustration.
Intially I was going to react to this with much disappointment, however in the cold light of day I am assuming that this new site will actually be a fan club, and membership will give access to it. On that basis i do not have a issue with it.

I whole heartedly agree with you! Fortunately thanks to someone who has become a very dear friend through these forums(bless you Caryl) I am at a concert with a M&G, however if she had not been so kind and generous and a true friend I would have missed this opportunity.
However my two children, (18 & 13) dragged round the shops looking for supplies, phoned radio stations making requests and drove their circle of friends absolutely crazy. And they will not have the opportunity to met this Man who's music they've heard since "in utro"
Now don' t get me wrong - we'd have all done what we did if the request had come without the promise and be happy to have done so and we'd do it again in the blink of an eye. But i can fully understand your sentiments and my heart goes out to you and the others who are affected.
