Default I have Bat II on vinyl!!!!

Finally found it on amazon last saturday, it came yesterday due to the postal strike, but it was worth the wait and the £20 payment! Also treated myself to a record player for my room so I can listen to them all there: got a really nice retro looking one from TJ Hughes for £30 instead of £50. Just ordered 3 Bats DVD too, so I'm going to owe a lot on Mum's barclaycard bill again!
But am thrilled with vinyl, I was amazed to find it exists, even more amazed that someone wanted to sell it! It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen apart from the Grand Canyon!

Well, the you're bound to be disappointed: the Bat II LP (both the regular version and the picture disc) sounds terrible...

It's not the picture disc, just the ordinary one. I'll be happy with this for now, it's taken me over a year to find it!
Listened to it yesterday, it could have been spread out over two discs instead of being crammed onto one then it might have sounded better. Sound quality wasn't quite what I was expecting. Only rarely did you feel that you were listening to vinyl. Is it just me or is Bat II the quiestest album ever? It always seems to need turning up more than the rest, that's on cassette, CD and vinyl!

The (at best) crappy sound and the fact that it's quieter than other albums has to do with the fact that they've crammed approx. 35 minutes on each side of the record.
Less music per side results in more room for each track, allowing it to be louder, have more dynamics, etc.

Bump?

Anyway, I can now illustrate what I meant about the Bat II LP being terrible, now that I got myself a copy of the Zimbabwean double LP version.

as E.N says, it's not a great sounding LP. There's 40 mins on one side and 35 mins on the other, on a format that was designed to take about 45-50 mins in total. Hence the lower volume, and decreased fidelity. I have a Brazilian promo copy that's just the same as the UK version, and the picture disc, which sounds even worse, although picture discs never sound as good as traditional vinyl. It's a nice thing to own, but if you want to listen to it, you're better off with the CD (not the remastered edition, which I found disappointing as well) and a good pair of headphones.

the first or the second remastered release?

I found the 2006 version quite listenable, pretty good actually

I haven't heard the first remaster (the 2002 "Deluxe edition"), but the second (2006's "Collectors Edition") was way too loud to my taste. Tonight, I might just update that post I made with some bitching about how CDs are mastered nowadays.

perhaps it's because I'm so familiar with the sound of the original CD, but I found that some songs sounded better than others on the newest remaster, and the snare drums sound tinny. The 2002 'Deluxe' edition is absoutlely terrible - they even messed up the track split between Everything Louder and Good Girlss Go To Heaven - on this version the bagpipes appear at the start of the latter, rather than at the end of the former.
