Default "Braver Than We Are" Demo

I've read in several threads that Meat and Patti have recorded a demo of the Steinman song "Braver Than We Are". I'm not sure I'm familiar with that song. Can anyone tell me where I can hear the original version of that song?

The song is the big love duet for the young ingenue roles in Jim's musical "Tanz der Vampire." Two versions of the song can be heard on this page, which (for the most part) holds demos for the last English version of the musical that Jim approved before too many cooks spoiled the kitchen and the US version flopped.

One is the duet version as heard in the play (and since it is said Meat and Patti were involved, I would assume it was this version they recorded), and the second is a "single version" which features (for the most part) specially written lyrics that have nothing to do with the show.

Vocals on the first version -- Boy.....MARCUS LOVETT; Girl.....ELAINE CASWELL; Additional Male Vocal in "Say a Prayer" Section.....JIM STEINMAN (listen really closely, his is the deep voice that comes in under hers, then it's her double-tracked on top of that, then Marcus in harmony)
Vocals on the second version -- ELAINE CASWELL

ETA: Quick note...the demo Meat and Patti did was also described as sounding "very different" from the musical, so keep in mind that while the duet demo provided gives you the basic idea, theirs probably did not sound that similar (especially as regards band arrangements).

I doubt it to be honest.

But then again, I would have never expected to hear The Future done by Patti, so what do I know?

Karine Hannah's version is the best, if you can hunt it down.

Thanks everyone! Now I remember that song. I heard it in an "Over the Top" concert in New York. It got a huge response from the audience. I would love to hear Meat and Patti's version of the song. I wish it would be included on the new album. I bet Rob Cavello could turn the arrangement into one of the those epic rock songs like he did with "The Black Parade" for My Chemical Romance.

I'm not too keen on the dance beat on the Lovett/Caswell recording

Tanz was perfect the way it was.
The only thing that should have been changed for Broadway was the language.

I just wanted to put my two canadian cents in
A while back there were flash cards of each song during the recording session in 2006. Remember the picture? Anyways, I don't recall seeing that song on them. Just a note. Two others were there though, riddle me that.

You mean

The songs on the cards, Elvis In Vegas and Only When I Feel never got recorded. Which leads me to strongly believing that the rumour of Braver Than We Are being recorded as a demo just a myth started by some fans who wish for it to happen rather than it actually happening.

I asked Meat about Elvis In Vegas, he said maybe it'll surface someday which leads me to believe it did get recored...Jon Bon Jovi wrote it (I thought a Bon Jovi written song would have got even more promo for the album) but anyway.

i think it was mind bendingly confusing enough that a Bat Out Of Hell album had songs on it not written by Jim Steinman (i don't want to drudge up the old argument) but to add as big a name as Jon Bon Jovi to it may have just taken the whole legacy thing away.

Not that I really have anything against Jon Bon Jovi

imo, those songs may have been recorded but as production goes on, and as the theme for the album progresses (nothing stays the same, as ideas come to mind etc...) that perhaps they felt these songs wouldn't fit neatly into the record - if you get what I mean.

Its like in drama, taking a stimulus of something (eg: love) and saying right we'll have this and that and then the actual final presentation turning out to be something that doesn't quite fit together... Its a similar idea for when recording an album

So perhaps, these songs might surface someday

Songwriting credits for them, however, are known thanks to BMI's searchable database. "I Saw Elvis in Vegas" was written by Desmond Child, Billy Falcon, and Jon Bon Jovi, and "I Wanna Be With You" was written by the same team as "What About Love" (i.e. Desmond Child/Marti Frederiksen/Russ Irwin/John Gregory).

Someone claimed it was gone? In the post I read, the first half of the sentence said that the eliminated song was written by the same team of writers who wrote "What About Love," nothing about WAL not being on the album.

No one claimed it was on Bat III...what was claimed was that at some point in the 2000's, Meat and Patti recorded a demo of it, as per a member of the Rockman named JSteinfan, whose word is naturally taken with a grain of salt, but still, as Jim mentions that it was one of the songs he would have chosen for his version of Bat III, perhaps that lends even more credence?

Was the song "I Wanna Be With You" also a duet with Patti?

The contents of both unreleased songs are currently unknown. If someone wants to write the publisher of those songs as if they're going to record them for an album, maybe we'll find out?

Why don't you do it and then give us the results?
