Default The greatest version of FCOL......

YouTube Video

RJ agrees with me on this. Years ago we had a long conversation of MSN messenger about the awesomeness of this recording.

The second greatest version. The best would be the original studio version.

I vaugly remember it. i just remember you saying you were particularly fond of the FCOL version that was sung for Rory's wife. Then i said "Oh, you mean el mocambo!" (not in those words but yea). I forget most of it too...

The El Mocambo concert is probably the best example of Meat's early years.

I don't think Meat had got into his stride yet during the Bottom Line shows. El Mocambo is much better.

I guess I can agree that he hit his stride post bottom line, father's place (pre bottom line) he really screws up all revved up.

I also hate how at the bottom line when it sounds as if Meat is introducing Hot patootie and hes gonna perform it, he goes into 2 outta three.

But Its really hard picking, as they both have pros and (very few) cons.

Either way, they both omit Johnny b. goode. don't know if a "1977 voice" meat version exists

Default FCOL etc

This early live FCOL is just a bit too 'raw' for me, to be the best ... audio-live, I prefer the 'Live Around The World' take; visually, there is something particularly stirring about the 'Live In Melbourne' take.

There are a couple of recordings of All Revved Up where Meat comes in early. I think he does it on the 'Hot As Hell' show too. Which also features Johnny B. Goode!

I think this one is too slow. Sped up slightly it would have been rather good.

Yea but thats not the 1977 voice, thats the late 1978 voice

And that version of all revved up doesn't mess up. You own Hot as hell, the edited hammersmith concert.

That version that only does the familiar riff once not twice. They edited out the second riff and segued meat right in. impressive edit.

I dont know why, but those versions never did it for me. First off they both sound about the same to me, and halfway through I get bored most of the time.
THIS version though, for me even surpasses the album version. To me it's all what the early Meat Loaf was about.

The band sounds more real to me, for some reason, than any other version. I highly enjoy this clip.

for me it goes

EM > MSO > Studio > LATW

Yes MSO is terrific, but when you actually have Jim on piano, can the entire Melbourne Symphony Orchestra compare?

Perhaps you should do a poll on the subject?!

Bat1 > El Mocambo > MSO > LATW > Bottom Line Late Show > Bottom Line Early Show > Old Waldorf

It's a shame there isn't a decent quality version from the Cleveland Music Hall show.

No idea. It's the one where you can clearly hear Jim pounding the piano all the way through.
