My advice...for what it's ....don't sell it!!!
I have had my collection for over 20 years and have vowed never to sell it...but you never know.
I tried to get it valued years ago but was never given a definative answer on value.
Horrible thing to say but when he finally moves to rock god heaven then his value will probably go up.
God bless you for collectin':

prices depend on whether you have an industry certified plaque or whether its one of those lovely to look at but not worth more than the beholder would pay for it type od plaques. If it has a recognised certificate on it i.e RIAA or (think the uk one is BPi ) then it could be worth a bit more. But it all depends on many things, best thing to do for insurance purposes is to call your insurance company and ask how they assess these things, some will just do an assessment themselves but others ask for proof of purchase or anything you have that can help them value them. But it is hard to get these kind of things insured seperately from your general house insurance, it really has to be a significant amount to make a difference.
