Default Blacktop: Murder on the Move

Wooo I just ordered Blacktop on VHS and it is on it's way! Unfortunately, it's coming all the way across the country (California to Florida) so it will be a week before it's in my hot little hands. Anyway, my husband doesn't really understand why I'm all excited so I thought I'd share it with other Meat fans who DO understand what a thrill it is to see a "new" (to me at least) Meat movie. I'll definately be back here to chat about it with other's who've seen it once I watch it!

Well i haven't seen it, sherrie87.

I have heard that it's a great movie though, and was planning on getting it myself.
So I'm eagerly awaiting your review of it.

I hope you have a lot of fun watching it, just drag your hubbie along, put him an the sofa, give him popcorn or something and he will have a good time aswell (I hope)

I have seen it! And it's feeble. I have a big problem with Meat's films: I don't like them!

I've seen Fight Club and it's yeah, great... but I saw better.
I've seen Black Top and it's a simple thriller-action. Not good. But I don't like the actions!
I've seen RHPS and I must say it's terrible. I know everybody will hate me for it but that's my opinion. Sometimes disgusting.
I've seen Mighty but there Meat isn't an important actor of the film. And the film isn't best... but I could see it!
I've seen Motorama and that was the most terrible movie of my life. What was that? I don't know. shit!!!
I've seen him in Wayne's World. I hate this "comedy". It's a typical stupid American raving. Mike Myers' just making faces like Jim Carrey. I don't like them. And Meat "doesn't" play in it. Only one minute.

I'd like to see Crazy In Alabama. Till Meat didn't do enduring in the movie...

Why would anybody hate you for your opinion White?
If you didn't like those movies that's fine....

I can't Judge Blacktop, since I haven't seen it.
But I did hear good reviews of it, but when I see it I will make my own mind up about it.

I must admit I enjoyed Black Top - the character suited Meat to a tee -

It has been 9 days since I posted the message that started this thread, and still my newly acquired copy of Blacktop is not here! They gave me an estimated shipping of 7-10 days, so it looks like the far end of the estimate is more accurate. Oh well, when it does arrive it will be my plans for the evening, at least. What better way to spend the evening than with ML as a psycho killer trucker? (OK, I can think of better ways to spend the evening with ML, but I guess that's neither here nor there!)

Blacktop arrived in my (rain soaked!) mailbox today! My husband and I will be watching it tonight, so I'll let you guys know how it is. He doesn't realize it's an ML film, I just read the summary of the back of the box to him and he's all excited about seeing it. We'll see how long it takes him to realize my real motives behind purchasing it!

Just finished watching Blacktop, my husband figured out real quick why I bought it as soon as the credits came on. It was really different- Meat played a psychotic truck driver who fancied himself a relationship counselor of sorts. Kind of like Dr. Phil on a crack binge. He was going to make a young couple understand the meaning of committment even if it killed them (and he seemed to sincerely hope it did!) There were loads of plot inconsistencies, but the film is definately worth a look just to see Meat at his frenzied best. Heck, he was even all sweet and sort of romantic, all up until he tied the girl to his truck and tried to shoot her boyfriend.
One thing I did like was the little touches that served as an homage to my favorite film ever, Psycho. There is a shower scene, with ML's character peeking through a hole in the wall covered by a painting, just like good old Norman Bates. There is the revelatory conversation over sandwiches, and the parent killed following an infidelity- ML's character here could be Norman with a mountain more testosterone! Check it out- I wouldn't say Blacktop is an outstanding film, but it's fun to watch ML's character get unhinged in grand style. Worth a look, two thumbs up!

Just wondering, but do they show it on Austrian TV in English or dubbed into German? Or with subtitles? I know that many people there speak English, but I was just wondering how they handle American movies.

No it was in German, I would prefer to hear it in original English, but there are so many people in Austria, who can't speak English or don't understand it so god, that they can watch a movie in English. There are never subtitles, it's always synchronised, every movie that comes from the States is going to be synchronised in Germany and Austria gets these movies then.

I've managed to pick up most of them from eBay and Amazon.com FM (ie US not UK) And Amazon.com's "used" pages are excellent!! Good used copies can be of perfect quality yet cheaper than the new version even including postage to the UK :)

Elsewhere tink loafed at becoming a loafer .. There'll be no holding her back!! Congrats :)

Funny I remember when Blacktop first came out, some people compared Meat's character to Jack Nicholson's character in The Shining. But right away I thought the same thing you did Sherrie ... he reminded me of Norman Bates in Psycho :) And as a big Hitchcock fan, I love the way they play homage to that film

I think Blacktop's a great movie - Meat really does bad so good :P and I just love watching Jack go over the top !! Definitely two thumbs way up!

This is very odd.....I got up very early in the morning for work a few days ago to find my husband watching Blacktop (or as he refers to it "the freaky movie where that guy you like gets all crazy and drives that truck"- hows that for a synopsis?), all on his own, on cable. Perhaps I have a closet ML fan in my home?
