Happy Birthday, Frampton Comes Alive!
This album was released 35 years ago today, on January 6, 1976; it has gone on to be one of the top selling live albums of all time:
If there is any one album that I have played more times than any other, this one may be number one. I still have my original vinyl copy (must be 30+ years old ), and I'm amazed I didn't wear it totally through. Many nights, I was that kid in the dark with the headphones on that Steinman talked about, playing this record and imagining that I was at the show. I didn't get to see Pete live until many years later, with the last time being last July, but he is still an amazing guitarist- maybe even better than years ago, IMO. He has been quoted recently as saying that he's not a rockstar anymore, now he is a musician. My favorite song from his current show is "(I'll Give You) Money", which features some blistering guitar work from Pete and an awesome dual between him and his second guitarist, Adam Lester. He also does an amazing version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I highly recommend seeing him if you get the chance. Anyway, in celebration of the album, here's some "classic" Frampton:
Edited to add that Pete has announced that they will be playing the album start to finish (plus some new stuff and covers) beginning in June this year. I'm so there! Last edited by Julie in the rv mirror; 07 Jan 2011 at 05:52. |
