Gotta say not a fan of that HCW version to be brutially honest lol.

This kind of confirms there was never no 27 minute version of Paradise. His songs were ultimately much more modest in arrangement and short before Bat was put together I reckon.

ehhhh not quite. this is only the ballads. Revved up was pretty lengthy too by all accounts. until we hear the demos for revved up and paradise I cant even say its "kinda" confirmed

Yeah, somewhat. Didn't Jim say someplace that he liked/ was influenced by Country? I know for sure he said that about Two Out of Three.

I kinda like these versions, FCOL more so than HCW, although I think both songs were much better as they ended up on Bat. And the intro (in FCOL) does sound very much like Future, although I've noticed a touch of "Future" in that intro on a couple of the early live versions, too.

Nice finds.

Of course, you're absolutely correct. We'll have some country line dancing songs on one side of the album and Meat Loaf rock songs on the other side. It will work perfectly.

How FCOL ended up sounding isn't exactly "just a standard" ballad. It became a signature Steinman track with a sound that obviously wasn't there originally to begin with. This isn't just because of the absence of the orchestra. The whole pacing and singing of it definitely has a more Nashville approach than a classic Meat Loaf/Steinman one. In my opinion all this stuff reaffirms that Bat needed both Meat AND Jim to work. Meat isn't some form of X Factor vocalist stand in with Jim always having the sound and songs ready with or without it. I just don't believe it nor do I believe in crazy 27 minute Paradises nor that Paradise even would have existed without Meat.

I think Meat once said that the sound for BAT was found by himself, Todd Rundgren and Jim. However, I think that Jim was more influenced by Meat the actor as he's been quoted as saying he writes his songs with a vision of how they would be presented. Maybe after touring with Meat on National Lampoons and seeing him on stage, that helped to formulate the sound as well.

yeah that sounds about right...shania twain doing bat out of hell would've been interesting to say the least. She did a reasonable job of you shook me all night long by ac/dc whereas Celine Dion (as strong a voice as she has) just got it totally wrong.

It really is too bad that Jim appears to not to have been a prolific writer at any time. And it also goes to show why he ended up with Meat for BAT. I don't care what excuse Jim gives, his singing really doesn't bring any life to the songs and the other singers are poor substitutes for Meat.
