Default best fanbase ?

So a poll in one of the tabloids today said that justin bieber had the best fanbase in the world and ome direction a close second.
But, if you think about it i think we're a pretty awesome fanbase. We've stuck by meat through thick and thin. Some were there in the 80s when he was struggling in his professional amd personal life but stuck by him and bought the albums. Others have stuck by him in recent times when hes been critcised so much but we've still bought the tickets to see him. Personally i dont think a fanbase is about how loud you can scream, its about loyalty and dedication to that person and treating them more like a friend than a star.

I'll bet they didn't even stop to consider the fanbases of artists like Meat but you've got a very good point. Meat has some fans that have been supporting him for years and love and respect him as if he were a friend.

What criteria did this 'newspaper' use to come to the conclusion that Justin Bieber and One Direction have the best fanbases?

From my perception they both have quite a young fanbase and although they're totally in love with their idols one minute, they can be quite fickle and move on as soon as another cute boyband or singer comes along.

That really says it all

How do you judge a "fanbase" anyway .. numbers? decibels? long term loyalty? multi-generational? It strikes me that most of the adults at a Bieber concert are there doing the concert equivalent of the chicken run And as Jenna has pointed out .. by time those parents can stay home, these fans will be following another newly packaged pop commodity

It strikes me that performers get the fanbase they earn .. through their continuing talent, over the years, and their care for and gratitude to those who support them. Meat has earned a solid and loyal fanbase in the UK throughout 35 years, and his farewell tour was sold out fast to fans who have filled every arena with a solid wall of love and affection from followers whose ages span several generations. I think he'll have been happy with that

That's what they WILL have done "Criteria" is a word their readers probably wouldn't understand, and their journalists would be unfamiliar with both the concept and the spelling

Exactly and from recent stories aboyt bieber her clerly doenst care about his fans, waltzing on stage 3 hours late and leaving his younger fans who had to leave early in tears. But yet in the last few years meat has had a vocal cyst, collapsed on stage, , and just a few days ago took ill on stage but always got up and finished the show !!!

Reported as being by a fan .. another reason for the PR machine to be buying rounds and oiling wheels I guess

Of course, given he apparently angered fans after arriving more than two hours late for his first concert in Dubai, the sceptics might wonder if the attack was part of some PR footwork .. "poor Justin .. grabbed by a nasty man, but came back and continued singing .." Getting on-stage in an arena to grab a singer from behind is no mean feat .. but afterwards Bieber could tweet “Dubai. Nothing stops the show.” What a little trouper eh?

Well it's about as reliable for accuracy as The Beano is for news.

It's clearly a PR thing as Caryl says, particularly given the recent news about Justin Beiber not putting him in the best light. I read another one of those type of articles the other day where they were talking about his M&G's and trying to get some positive press about those. He loves his fans so much that he's willing to pull funny faces in their photos, never mind the fans who allegedly only got a grunt out of him a few weeks prior to that.

I only referred to the UK because this was relating to a UK tabloid .. and I guess it's fair to say he has a loyal fanbase in the antipodes too

Screw the tabloids. Our fanbase is the GREATEST fanbase in the world barnone.

Justin Beiber and One Direction are just fads, theyll be gone in 2 years tops.
Their "fanbase" are mostly a bunch of horny young girls who are more shallow then a baby pool.
Of course these fanbases get the promotion while real music gets f'ed to (Losangeloser couldve been the Gungan Style of 2010. Just saying....)

While real music like Meat has a true fanbase loyal to the music, not a pretty face (discounting Patti of course).

Bieber should be given the benefit of the doubt. We have no first hand reports just some unreliable, poor quality youtube videos filmed without legal permission . How do we know what he was going through? We should respect that unless we for sure know different. He has earned the right. As in his right, only he knows how it made him feel being attacked physically. To judge his status as a "trouper" seems derogatory and hurtful. Who knows how he may feel if he read this?

From my experience people saying that an artist was two hours late are usually overblown and coming from people who don't go to a lot of concerts.

They think that if the show starts at 8:00pm that means the headliner will be on. You'll have the opening band usually start about 15-20 mins after show start time, play for 45 minutes and than you have 30-45 minutes of changeover. Pretty standard IMO, though I don't know all the facts.

I have NEVER been to a concert where the artist didn't go on a little bit later.

In regards to the best fan base? It's pretty hard to say. What do you base it on? Size? Per Capita loyal fans? What about those that are loyal to the artist no matter what they do? Are they really 'great' fans?

There is no best fan base. Not even us.

No he was 2 hours late. I spoke to the security at the O2 before Meat Loaf and they did the Bieber concert. He got fined pretty heavily for going over the 23:00 curfew.

He was also only in the meet and greet for 15 seconds.

Press reports across a wide range of papers, not merely the tabloids. I don't watch illegal bootlegs of the artist I admire, as you know, let alone Bieber.

I didn't comment on his status as a trouper btw .. simply expressed my own view that the tabloid "poll" could be due to the PR machine, and wondered about the integrity of the reported "attack"

I think the O2 was accurately reported, and have no reason to believe the Dubai concert reports were inaccurate. The issue for the O2 concert was the number of kids who missed the show because he was so late, and they were so young'

That I'd agree with Meat clearly has a solid and loyal fanbase, but to suggest it's "better" than any other is as empty as the suggestion that Bieber's is "best". Most of Meat's fans we don't know .. they simply stand with us in the arenas and cheer

I take it this is meant as being ironic right? Considering who you are quoting from in your signature and what Mr. Bieber wrote in that book of condolences.

I think that this is true- fans tend to remember and appreciate (or not) how they are treated.

As to this story, it's just some tabloid fluff, and who's to say what a "best" fanbase is anyway?

As to Beiber, the kid is not untalented, but I don't see him having much of a career at all in a few years if he keeps going down the road he's on. I don't know if he's "acting out", or what, but I sense trouble there. Sad, really.

The stuff he was doing when he was discovered was quite nice, but the publicity machine turned him into what he is today.
