Default Blind Before I Stop Re-Issue...

...

HNE Records are releasing their latest Meaty album...

Click Here If You Want It

Quote:
*Something of a departure from the harder rocking
approach of 1984’s “Bad Attitude”, and certainly a long
way from the fusion of rock operatics that is the 40 plus
million selling “Bat Out Of Hell”, “Blind Before I Stop”
was originally released in September 1986.

* Whereas previous long players had been a showcase for
Jim Steinman’s skills as a songwriter, one obvious reason
for the switch to a more European direction that fully
embraced 80s production values was the role of producer
Frank Farian, famed for his work with Boney M and later
Milli Vanilli, among others.

* The album features the singles ‘Blind Before I Stop’,
‘Special Girl’ and ‘Rock 'n' Roll Mercenaries’; the latter a
duet with respected rock vocalist John Parr.

* Joining previous Meat Loaf titles "Bad Attitude" and "Live
At Wembley" in the HNE Recordings catalogue, this "Blind
Before I Stop" remaster features extensive liner
notes, rare artwork and memorabilia.

I dare say this will be 'remastered' in the same way the reissues of Live and Bad Attitude were remastered. IE not remastered at all. This is another pointless, cheapo rehash with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's sad to look at what happens to other artists back catologues and compare it to what Meat Loaf fans get.

You'd be surprised at the amount of legalities involved. Let alone tracking down usable source material. You wouldn't want them to tack on a needledrop from a battered, second-hand copy of the 12", would you?

I'm not saying that at all. I don't know where the BBIS master tapes are. They might be in Meat's legendary vault, they might be somewhere in the Sony/RCA/Arista-archives, they may have been destroyed — I don't know.

As I said in the BA 30th Anniversary Edition thread: remastering albums (and/or adding bonus tracks) costs money. Someone needs to find an usable source, probably digitize them (which may include some elaborate restoration depending on the state of said source), and sprinkle magical fairy dust on them. For albums that aren't that popular, it makes commercial sense to do straight reissues.

Also, for all we know, Meat or whomever holds the rights to BBIS doesn't want the B-sides out there. years ago, I asked Wounded Bird about the bonus tracks for their BBIS reissue, and they said they were only allowed to do a no-frills reissue.

That said, as a fan, I wouldn't mind a deluxe reissue including all appropriate B-sides, which, if my website is to be believed, are:
R.P.M.
Rock N' Roll Mercenaries (exploded version — and perhaps an edited version from the guitar shaped picture discs)
Rock N' Roll Mercenaries (dub version)
Gettin' Away With Murder (Scott Free Mix)
Blind Before I Stop (extended version)
Dead Ringer for Love (live)
Paradise by the Dashboard Light (live — 2 or possibly 3 differently edited versions, from the BBIS 12", Special Girl 12" and CD singles)

I'm not sure Meat is usually much involved in all these re-releases .. just as he often has no idea when the compilations get thrown together until he sees them advertised. This may have been put out by a company holding rights with no reference to him?

I am aware of only two different versions. The full length vinyl and the CD one that fades out towards the end.

Then Andy Pearce has a job creating the Emperor's new clothes.

I've got an ancient CD around somewhere and I can't even remember the last time I listened to it. It's not really a favourite album of mine so I probably won't be ordering a reissue.

I seriously doubt Meat is consulted much if at all when re-issues or compilations are done. For one thing he's too busy making new stuff and doing shows to spend precious time on an 80's album re-issue. Especially if the stories are correct that what Frank Farian did with the tracks did not sit well with Meat (purely rumor and speculation) but I always found it interesting that when played live (and most of the songs were at some point) they had much more rock style arrangements as one would expect. I believe the live versions are likely more what the album was expected to sound like.

It has that seriously 80's sound and I haven't given it a spin in years.

My version of Bad Attitude has a bunch of tracks from BBIS. It took almost every track from BA (minus 'Surfs Up' for some reason) plus "Rock N' Roll Mercenaries', 'BBIS', 'Getting Away With Murder' and 'Standing On The Outside'.

It's a great 80's-Loaf mix, even though it's missing SU and 'Masculine'.

BBIS is a good record, just like all ML albums, but it doesn't grab me like the BOOH's, Dead Ringer or Bad Attitude.

I'm actually kind of happy this one is being re-released just for the sake of finally getting hold of it. This is the only album I'm missing to have all of Meats studio releases.

Dated sound be damned, it'll be nice to just have it.

I guess its no Secret I rank this forth only after Bad Attitude, Bat 2 and Bat 1. I absolutely Love this record.

Besides Special Girl, I would gladly put any of these tracks on my 2 Disk personal Best of Meat Loaf Compilation

A Man and A Woman is really under appreciated.

I could have sworn that you said it was your favourite on at least a couple of occasions.

It is a great vocal performance. The production is well done but the songs seem to have lost something that was there on BAD ATTITUDE, Don't get me wrong, some of the songs I really like but some I'm not so sure about

Kevin... just got my 30th anniversary copy of Bad Attitude which was part of my Blind Before I Stop Order. Sounds amazing. So much punchier and more detailed compared to my old cd. Well worth it. Cheating In My Dreams is transformed. Note I rip all my cds and listen to the mp3 so maybe it doesn't sound much different as a cd. All I know is that the mp3 sound amazing instead of tinny and thin

Ah glad our stock team got the item to you! I've actually enjoyed hearing the 'remastered' version of this BA and Live. Looking forward to BBIS.

Not if you mp3 them. Maybe they are remastered for itunes as they say. Never listen to the actual cd anymore but the mp3s are way better.
